DECORATIVE STONE - IN THE MUSEUM AND OUTDOORS ACTIVITIES, EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES AT THE TARGU-MURE§ NATURAL SCIENCE MUSEUM Angela SÄPLÄCAN Muzeul de §tiintele Naturii Tárgu-Murey str. Horea, nr. 24, RO-540036 Tárgu-Murey Romania Abstract: The following paper is presenting a synthesized description of a sample activity plan from the project “Geology for kids”. The plan includes objectives, activity structure and procedures. The initiative came as intent to integrate the Museum in the community and bring awareness to kids of their impact in a community and the environment. The children are encouraged to participate in museum activities, integrate those activities in everyday life and apply the knowledge received in their future interaction with the community. The interactive manner in which the activity plan is designed is meant to entice the children curiosity and encourage future collaboration with the Natural Science Museum, activities that will provide with an outlet for skill building and civic competency acquirement. Keywords: educational activities, decorative stone. Introduction The project is a segment of a larger theme “Geology for kids” and it is meant to incite and satisfy the child basic curiosity. They will uncover the secrets of Earth in the context of multiple educational activities. First they will get to know it as a planet, and then they will discover his internal structure. The following step will introduce them to the beginning of life on Earth, its evolution, soils, minerals, rocks, reservoirs, ground forms, and their dynamics, erosion and pollution. Everything will be explained, experimented and verified in the museum, on field trips or in the lab. General objectives: valuing of Museum’s patrimony; developing in children an interest for the environment, and appreciation for it no matter where that environment is found (in the museum, outdoors, in the city). Specific objectives: promoting the Natural Science Museum in schools and local communities; understanding and application in everyday life of knowledge and skills obtained through educational activities; cultivation of team work and civic conscience for children.
