Art and Religions on the Eastern Part of Dacia 103 Vessels decorated with snakes 1. Pot; red paste; red angoba; fragment; a portion of the body and the rim preserved as well as two of the three handles. The rim is straight, horizontal, flat, marked by two channels. Starting from the body of the vessel from the left part of each handle a snake was applied, with the head reaching the rim. Scales are shown by stamped circles and eyes are marked by circles with diameter of 5 mm. Handles are decorated on both edges with one row of circles with 5 mm in diameter. The same circles can be found on the edge of the rim and neck of the pot. Under the rim, between two of the handles a bull’s head is applied; PI. 2/1. Patera handle; brick paste; reddish angoba on both sides; good preservation; handles are asymmetrically placed on the body, decorated from top to bottom with a turtle or a star, two protomes of the Winds; Minerva in the Majestas hypostasis with an owl, a snake and an altar in the centre; PL 4/7. Patera handle; yellow paste; dark brick angoba; fragment; a part of a rim preserved; the decoration keeps the inferior part of the goddess Athena, wearing chiton, with the left hand on the spear; at her legs, at left is a serpent, at right a turtle and in the centre an altar from which smoke rises, and a fish or a lizard. She is dressed in a chiton and has a contoured chest. The right hand is resting on the right leg. The left hand is not shown, but probably she held the lance. At her feet are the turtle in the right and the snake at the left; Pi. 4/9. The right hand seems to hold a cornucopia and in her left hand he holds the bow (?); PL 4/10.
