Istorie 169 CUNOA§TERE §1 CERCETARE ISTORICÄ ÍN VIZIUNEA LUI IOAN LUPA§ NICOLAE VICTOR FOLA Knowledge and historical research in loan Lupas's vision Summary As a famous representative of Romanian history research field, as a teacher, as a theologian and journalist, loan Lupas investigated the history of the Romanian provinces especially Transylvania's history and its individuality, in particular. He also insisted and put a stress on the similarity, if not the identity of developement of this Romanian area with those from the South and the East of the Carpathians. Folowing the modern spirit of positivism, loan Lupas aimed at accuracy and rigour and he intended to spotlight objectively the decisive elements of the historical, economic, social, ethnic,cultural, moral and religious development and the national consciousness. He had both methodological concerns in historical research and teaching methodology and he encreases upon instructive aspects in historical awareness. The objective and pragmatic analysis is completed by the implementation of civic attitudes and convictions. Education is partly supported by the knowledge of historical evolution beginning with the birth of the Romanian people and the process of Christianity, continuing with their development of various levels, the Great Unification in 1918 and the historical process of natural formation of the environment for integral development of the Romanian nation. Incercarea de prezentare a unor aspecte ale activitätii unei personalitati de talia lui loan Lupa§, considerat ca unul din liderii generatiei sale, implicä о multiplä abordare, dupä cum s-а remarcat, din postura de román (ardelean), cre§tin ortodox §i intelectual (profesor §i preot), altfel spus educator §i conducátor ín cele spirituale ale poporului. Caracter ferm, de luptátor, a ínceput liceul la Sibiu §i aici a activat ín cercul de literaturä maghiara „Vörösmarty” §i §i-a íncheiat studiile secundare la Bra§ov. La Sibiu, unde functiona grobianul §i §ovinul profesor Tompa, se solidarizeazá cu Octavian Goga. La plecarea celor dói colegi la Bra§ov, au fost condu§i §i de colegi maghiari, care au blocat ie§irea mentionatului profesor. Spirit militant ca §i viitorul „poet al pätimirii noastre”, la Universitatea din Budapesta, loan Lupa§ este obiectul unei anchete a rectorului, dar §i a unor campanii ostile ale préséi maghiare, sub acuzatia de iredentism (ín legäturä cu Congresul International Studentesc din anul 1902 §i activitatea desfä§uratä la Societatea „Petru Maior”). Viitorul istoric, scriind un articol despre Horea, s-а aflat ín „atentia”unei publicatii maghiare §i a avut emotii, ín legäturä cu un eventual proces de presä1. ín anii studentiei se afirmä ín jurnalistica romäneascä (ín „Telegraful román”,’Tribuna”,’Tribuna poporului”), ín combaterea politicii guvernelor budapestane §i a * 1R.
