ASPECTS REGARDING THE ACTIVITY OF THE GREEKCATHOLIC HIGH GYMNASIUM OF BLAJ BETWEEN 1851-1880 (Abstract) I had in view the presentation of this prestigious and also representative confessional middle-school of the United Romanians in Transylvania, within the framework of the modernization of the society and of the efforts made by the Romanian community (especially after 1867) to maintain it’s spiritual and cultural-national identity. As political liberalisation lasted a very short period of time, the Romanian Churches together with their confessional schools represented bolwarks of communitary life and of it’s specific character. They supported the efforts made by the „Association for the Romanian people’s culture and language”. The Romanian National Party was in the foregraund of this effort (and also the Romanian Social-Democrats on the eve during the war), along with endeavour which started with the struggle for maintaining political autonomy and ended by adopting the state of self-determination completed in the realization of political unity inside Great Romanian’s borders in 1918. 19I.Silviu Nistor, Piatra libertása de la Blaj §i „Odiseea ei in „cultura romänä moderné §i ideálul national" Bucure§ti, 1997, p.184 §i N.Josan, Contributu privind solidaritatea romänilor din Alba cu lupta pentru cucerirea independentei de stat 1877/1878, In Apullum" XV 1977, p.437 §i 441 - 443.
