750 78 chapter on Ballad Melodies. As specific epic melodies do not exist, epic songs have been adapted to the melodies of other musical genres. Folk lyrics, particularly songs and shouts represent the most extensive part of the collection (cca 600 texts). In general, lyrics manifest a thematic and stylistic unity in Transsylvania, but localization is also evident. Numerous examples are given to illustrate the richness and diversity of the themes, motifs as well as the compositional modalities encountered more frequently. Then follows a chapter on Hungarian Folk Songs from Gläjärie. The author concludes that the musical tradition in this village has less vitality in contrast to the richness and variety of the oral narrative tradition.
