VENISON GULYAS An ann It feels like sitting at a table on the southern slopes of the Carpathian Mountain. The hunters brought home the deer, cleaned it, and handed it over to the experts in the kitchen. There with selected vegetables and spices according to the well known Hungarian gulyás recipe it became the glory of the pot. One could not ask for anything better, not even kneeling down and begging. There is a special blessing on this event. It is held at the Calvin United Church, and the pastor, Reverend Béla Póznán not only said grace before the meal, but he is responsible for the recipe that he brought from the slopes in northern Hungary. He also participates in the actual cooking of this venison gulyás. The guests made sure that no chair is left unoccupied. Also after the meal leaving the Hall one could see them struggling putting their coat on, because they do not want to depart with the container filled with gulyás they are bringing home. They, besides, have to carry the “túrós palacsinta” and the “lekváros palacsinta”, the deserts that go with the venison. The guests have a choice of the Gulyás. There is an other dish, the “beef gulyás”. One could enjoy either or have both, depending on their appetite.
