New endeavors include the following goals: to unify those churches in the community whose congregation once primarily consisted of Hungarians, encourage the numerous Hungarian organiziations in Connecticut to work collaboratively to secure the funding for events such as the March 15th commemorative celebration, and finally to erect a permanent monument commemorating the 1956 Freedom Fight. We are very close to completing one of our goals. The town of Fairfield has graciously allocated just the spot which has been approved by First Selectman Honorary Kenneth A. Flatto. The perfect piece of granite has already been found; we even have a volunteer who will do all the required work for the installation of the plaque. We are in the process of seeking contributions for the casting of the bronze, with a goal for the unveiling to be around the time of the anniversary of 1956 Freedom Fight.
