Dr. Judit Nemethy, Chairwoman of the Gala gave a discussion of the historical significance of the emblems and provided helpful explanation regarding the characteristics of the food served. The meal proved to be a popular success. The "Het Vezer Tokany" turned out to be a critical success. The "Cobbler's Turnover" (Vargabeles) researched by and prepared under the expert guidance of Ella Szabó proved to be an esthetic and culinary delight. Mr. Phillip Bashon, principal clarinet of the Greenwich Symphony played the tarogato producing graceful and melancholic musical reminders of the "Golden Age." Substituting for the indisposed Isabella Mederi, the internationally acclaimed soprano Ms. Eva Zseller proved to be an exciting and colorful entertainer. She sang excerpts from Lehar operettas and an aria from Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi". In addition, she performed a "lieder" composed by Mr. Zorandy and sang a popular Hungarian song. The atmosphere was bustling, festive and celebratory. The guests mingled merrily with many of them participating in the "bidding war" over the valuable items featured in the successful "Silent Auction." Music for listening and dancing was provided by the popular and sophisticated Zoltán Zorandy Orchestra. The "Golden Age of Transylvania" Gala truly surpassed our collective expectations! Proceeds from the celebration on October 26th at the Italian Center, Stamford, CT. had enabled us to provide continued assistance for the operational expenses of the venerable Teleki-Bolyai Library; at the same time, we shall provide significantly to the cause of Hungarian high school and university education in Transylvania. We gratefully salute those who have sponsored and attended the "Golden Age of Transylvania" Gala. We wish to invite you to our next Gala to be held at the Italian Center of Stamford on September 27th , 2003.
