Santa's festtags 3Frnm imiganj, Pan 2 At Christmas time 2000,1 wrote an article in the Magyar News entitled Santa's Greetings From Hungary. It featured the 4 Hungarian St. Nicholas postcards I won at the Profila Stamp Auction House in Budapest after my trip that summer. The article covered the interesting customs and history associated with the cards. Well, now the Christmas Reproductions Company of NYC has created their first 2 Hungarian-style figurines as part of their Memories of Santa line of collectibles! Since 1983, about 130 different beautiful styles have been released by the company. At the annual MOS Club Convention held in Lancaster, PA July 26-28,1 received an award for my research on the 1914 Huszár St. Nicholas. It features a red military coat, little girl, brown rabbit, satchel bag, toys, and a Christmas tree. The 1924 St. Nicholas features a dark blue robe with white dots, matching pointed hat, a toy lamb, a large horn, switches (virgács), and a backpack with toy horse and books. (or Magyar Mikulás Figurines) by Oliver F. Valu Dancing Feet Again Last year the Pannónia Club organized a “Táncház”, what translates into “Dancehouse”. A nice group of young people joined in to leam different style dancing, including Hungarian folkdance. The instructors were professional dance teachers, actual members of nationally known dance groups, or those who spent years of performing before they retired. This year the club offers the Táncház again. The first gathering will take place on October 25, Friday evening at 7:30. The address is Calvin United Church, 901 Kings Highway, Fairfield, CT. Please take time to call 373-9958 or 255-0890 or leave message to register. Participation is free, sponsored by the club. In case somebody would be interested in being member of a performing Hungarian Folkdance Ensemble, please make mention of it. Subscribers please read The previous issue carried a reminder note. For the past few years we have been trying to have the subscription go from January to December. Saying in general, we accomplished our goal. On the address of the envelope after the name you see a number. If it is “2002” that means the the subscription covers the whole year of 2002. If it is “2002 6” then you are covered till the middle of the year. This is what those get who come in during the year. Hopefully we can have them correct it for the following year. We still have a problem. If the reminder is sent with the December issue, then in most cases it is put aside during the busy holiday events and we receive the subscription late in February or March. This time, maybe we sent out the note a bit too early, we apologize for it.
