f Statement by President of the Republic of Hungary Ferenc Mádl ■\ These are shocking, outrageous and barbaric terrorist attacks, which I most resolutely condemn on behalf of the Hungarian people. I take this sad occasion to express our deepest sympathy and condolence, and convey Hungary's solidarity to the American people. The tragedy suffered by the United States is a tragedy to every democratic nation. States all around the world must act together to stop and prevent any such terrorist attacks happening against any country, any people, anywhere in the future. Hungary, according to its capabilities, is ready to make its contribution to alleviate the tragic consequences of this most brutal form of terrorism, and to facilitate the necessary international cooperation. V * NEWS CHANGES IN THE SKY With the international terrorism the Hungarian Airline, the MALÉV, will not be flying to New York every day. The scheduled flights will take place on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. It has been affected like all other airlines by the decline in the number of passengers. Any airplane in the sky has to stay on its strickt route. Ifit deviates 1500 feet from it then the Hungarian fighter planes on standby will join them in the air. there has been one also collecting dust at Budapest’s Ferihegy Airport since 1998. At that time there was no urgent need for it, therefor there was no money for it. They tested it at the Airport and it did an excellent job. I guess many countries could had avoided big headachs. It still isn’t to late. What does the equipment do? The equipment actually saves and stores the X-rays taken of passenger luggage, and also takes photographs and saves the images of passengers passing through checkpoints. The Hungarian machine is compatible with the type of equipment already used in most of the airports in the world. All there is to be done is to attach it to the existing machines. operation when the person running it suddenly died. Hungarian authorities are doing a good job cleaning up criminas and illegal aliens. The growing number of migration into Hungary seems to be corresponding directly with crime. In the year 200 they discovered close to 750 people who were living there illegally. They also pinned down 5,000 human smuglers. Some fish in the net are bigger than the average, at the border Hungarian authorities arrested a former Afghan military officer, who had tried to enter Hungary illegally. I am sure that he will have to answer a nice amount of questions The MALÉV receive a cash-payment guarantee from the Hungarian government. The total amount neccessary would be $1 Billion. Since the insurance companies only accept to pay 50 million dollars, the government has to cover $950 million. CHANGES ON THE GROUND Due to unfavorable circumstances many Hungarian inventions never get to the right place at the right time. To mention a couple; the Hungarian generator was 11 year ahead of Siemens, the helicopter collected dust by the time Sikorski flew off the ground. Now in the light of terrorism a good security system would come very handy. From the daily Magyar Hirlap we learned that MORE ON THE GROUND. The banking system in Hungary is the most advanced in East Central Europe, and it is the closest to the Middle East. They are examining the possibly unsuspecting role of Hungarian banks by financial analysts who believe that some transactions might have been connected with terrorist groups as reported by Napi Gazdaság. There are some estimates claiming that criminal gangs laundered 50 million dollars worth of illicit money through Hungarian banks last year. Through the grapevine we heard some news about Bid Éaden’s familyHis father had over 50 children. One of the boys, Bin Laden’s brother, in the western part of Hungary started a business. We don’t know much about it. It closed after a short Prime Minister Orbán said that after the terrorist attacks against the United States the government had introduced several measures. All border crossings, in and out of the country are now being registered with a new registration system. At parts of the border where there are no crossing points have been reinforced by 1,200 special personel. The Prime Minister said border patrols had taken into custody several small groups of Muslim nationals, including Afghans, who attempted to enter Hungary illegally. The system of issuing visas had been tightened up, as had rules in refugee camps on Hungarian territory. The government established anti-terrorist units. Action plans have been worked out for the most varied emergency situations.
