Children go to school, parents buy them the books, and then comes the studying. This is what we are used to. But leave it to the Hungarians, they will change things around. This is what happened in Passaic, New Jersey. The Szent István Magyar Iskola published the second edition of the book, Hungarian Inventors and Hungarian Scientists. The first edition was a big success and the demand for more copies prompted Emese Kerkay, principal, to expand it to 32 pages in both languages of Hungarian and English. The translation was made by Klára Felsővályi, Kinga Kertész, and Dorottya Sziráki, students at the Hungarian School. The illustrations were made by Andrea Veronika Benko. From the many outstanding Hungarians in the scientific field they chose forty eight to present. Readers who are somewhat familiar with names in this field can come across new ones they have never thought about. We don’t hear much about Béla Barényi who designed the Volkswagen Beetle and the safe steering wheel. The Projectophon, in other words the sound motion picture was invented by Dénes Mihály. He also invented the Telehor. In 1929, first in history the first moving television was based on his invention. Mária Telkes” design made it possible in 1948 to build the first house in history to be heated with solar energy. If you had the privilege to fly to the Moon then you could hail down a Moon Rover developed by Ferenc Pávlics. If you want to go up high here on the Earth the you look up the creation of Eszter Pécsi who designed the very first reinforced-concrete skyscraper, what is the Hotel Americana in New York City. Just one more. Those who work with the computer could say thanks to Charles Simonyi for Windows, Words and Microsoft Excel This list is very interesting and we haven’t touched the so called big ones nor those who are in other fields.
