Fortunately the address of the editor was also in the letter. Naturally I had to get in touch with this person, László Gáthy, editor in chief. He was kind to give me a call and I was very excited to learn about his new venture. My excitement suddenly jumped to great heights when finally I held the very first issue in my hand. It is a periodical magazine with full color cover, front, back and inside, and every page is decorated with color borders. Tire pictures are varying of black and of duotone. And . . . hold on to your seat, everything is written in Hunganan. The magazine is published here in America, among the palm trees of Florida. In the first issue the photos of the publishing and editorial staff were printed and one could not help noticing that they are of a younger generation filled with enthusiasm and enough energy to carry on with this tremendous task of publishing the Panorama Magazine. On thirty six pages they established three major departments; the American Scene deals with Hungarian people and events here; the Hungarian Look and Pick writes about interesting happenings in Hungary; Leisure and Lifestyle brings up theater, sports, recipes, puzzles, humor. I must say there is quite a selection for all ages and generations. Pages facing each other gives us an idea of what the American tourist likes in Hungary, or what are the many things that the Hungarians are very proud of. Whenever you go to Disney World don’t forget to look up the 18 year old Bianka Szijgyarto performing on ice. But for a change if you visit the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. be proud of the fact that a Hungarian millionaire donated 61 million dollars to add on an extension to the museum to house the aviation section. In an October issue the magazine gives a spread on remembering the 1956 October 23 events. Also a report of the II. American Hungarian National Convention held in New Jersey received a detailed coverage. The sport fans could start making note of those who probably will add 20 Olympic Medals to the 416 that Hungarians already won in the games since 1896. And on it goes, there is no shortage of good readmg material. An interesting feature of this magazine is that it is designed and edited, also published in Florida, but there is an editorial office in Hungary, in Salgótarján, that seems to be working on the articles from Hungary. You might be interested in subscribing to the Panorama Magazine. For a year, that is twenty six issues, it costs only $55.00. Make your check out to “Hungarian Panorama” and send it to: Panorama Publishing, Inc., 10191 W. Sample Road, #207 Coral Springs, FL 33065. We wish success to the magazine, the editors and publishers. We hope that the readers of the magazine will spend enjoyable times with it. JFB Page 1
