NOV. 21 SATURDAY Calvin United will have their annual HOLIDAY FAIR Aat 901 Kings Highway in Fairfield from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Luncheon and Stuffed Cabbage Supper. Also Hungarian noodles and pastry, cake sale, country store, attic treasures, crafts, raffle, books and tea table. DEC. 5. SATURDAY from 10 AM to 3 PM at St. Ladislaus Social Center the ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FAIR will take place. Hungarian food, delicious pastries, raffles, crafts and a White Elephant Room. SUNDAY starting at 3:00 PM the Pannónia American Hungarian Club will have the annual CHIL­DREN’S HUNGARIAN CHRISTMAS at the Calvin Hall in Fairfield. Following the Christmas program all the children, including the audience, will be presented with a gift. Also the Pannónia Scholarships will be given to the chosen recipi­ents. A reception of hot dogs, soda and coffee will take place. Donations are welcome. JAN. 3. SUNDAY at 3:00 PM the American Hungarian Heritage Association will have the MARY KATONA SCHOLARSHIP TEA PARTY at the club room of the Calvin United Church in Fairfield. The scholarships will be given to the winning applicants. A progaram will also take place and a reception will follow. We ask the participating ladies to bring along their delicious baked goods. SCHOLARSHIPS: The applications have to be submitted by November 31 for the Mary Katona, and by December 1 for the Pannónia scholarships. BOOKS: THE HUNGARIAN LIBRARY offers thousands of Hungarian books for reading. For the time being, it is accessable every Sunday between 10 and 11 at the Calvin United Church. MAGYAR STUDIES is conducting Hungarian classes on beginner and advanced levels every Monday at 7:00 PM at the Fairfield Woods Middle School. For information call 203- 261-1956. HUNGARIAN RADIO PROGRAM is aired Sunday 1-2:30 from the Fairfield University on 88.5 FM, with Rev. Anthony Szilagyi. FOR KIDS AND FOR GROWN-UPS. For a child in Hungary the American Christmas is just as confusing as it would be the other way. Here Santa Claus comes tumbling down the chimney at Christmas eve spreading the presents under the tree.In Hungary the infant Jesus takes on this obligation. But Santa isn’t left out. He comes on St. Nicolaus day with stocking stuffers, candy and other goodies for the well behaved, and sticks and coal for the bad.
