Father Robert Donald Nemeth Order of Friars Minor 1939-1998 Father Nemeth’s first Mass in 1967 Reverend Robert Daniel Nemeth, O.F.M., Pastor of St. Emery’s Roman Catholic Church of Fairfield, CT. was bom into eternal life on Friday, January 9, 1998, at the Carolton Chronic Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. Father Robert was bom on June 4, 1939 in Bridgeport, Conn, to Andrew and Marion Sizensky Nemeth, He received his early religious education at St. Thomas Parish in Fairfield where he began serving Mass at four years of age. His elementary education was taken at the fonner Shermon Elementary School in Fairfield. His secondary education was begun at the former Roger Ludlow High School in Fairfield. As early as his high school years, he desired to become a Franciscan Friar and a Priest. Upon graduation from Ludlow High School, he began his quest and his Franciscan formation in priestly studies by attending the former St. Joseph's Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, NY and the former St. Francis Seraphic Seminary in Andover, MA. This discernment decision was arrived at under the direction of Fr. Edmund Ibranyi, O.F.M. Associate Pastor of St. Emery's at the time. He received the habit of St. Francis and the religious name "Francis" on August 15, 1958 as he began his novitiate in Troy, NY. On August 16, 1959 he made his Temporary Profession in the Franciscan Order professing the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. He became a member of the Commissariat (later Custody) of St. Stephen, the King - a Translyvanian - Hungarian Community of Friars. In September, 1959 he began his philosophical studies at the fonner Immaculate Conception Seminary in Troy, NY. On July 15, 1963, after completing his college courses, he was awarded a Bachelor's of Arts degree. On August 16, 1962, at the Seminary in Troy, he made a life-long commitment to the Franciscan way of life Page 4
