What for? To learn how to sit in the saddle so the next step would be the drivers seat? It doesn’t make since. First you learned to walk and now you want to drive. You step from walk to drive. If you know one language and you want to learn an other one do you have to learn a third one to do so? Now this is the task. You speak English and you want to know how to say things in Hungarian. It is very simple to familiarize yourself with the Hungarian reading and writing. Its not that difficult. The consonants are just about the same, though you have a few sounds where you use two letters. Like in English the CH as in church, the SH as in shoe. The vowels are different. But how many are there? Five and with all those funny accents it comes to 14. You don’t need years to conquer these. I used to teach Hungarian to Americans. After two sessions, plus the homework, most of them learned how to read Hungarian and how to write.They had to work at it but a true Hungarian would understand the reading and the student would do writing on a level that some letters come in the mail from the old country. They knew how to do it, but they didn’t know what it means. Not long ago somebody gave me a book that was designed for people who want to visit Hungary. I have a sample of one of the pages. You find the English phrase, next to it is the Hungarian and next to that is a third, a phonetic explanation of how to pronounce it. So you have to learn the third way of writing to be able to read the second way. I am sorry if I’m confusing you but I myself am confused too. Wouldn’t you just learn how to read Hungarian? Does the teenager has to sit on a horse to get behind the steering wheel? What does a visitor do if somebody gives directions; tells them to go to this street then turn into that street. You may memorize the names by the way they sound but you won’t see the “third language” on the street sign next to the Hungarian. You’re lost.
