Some were parishioners from this church, others, some from distances of longer drives. They came to celebrate in the Hungarian language the Conquest of the Carpathian Basin and the heroic Revolution of‘56. Reverends Szilágyi and Karla participated in the service. Bela Szakcsi Lakatos provided the organ music, and Krisztina Beres sang a solo. Here are excerpts of Rev. Bela Póznán ‘s sermon: "On the solid rock they built the house and the country. ” “ Let us remember Jesus ’ words about the house which was built upon the rock as it is recorded in Matthew 7:24, 25: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house of rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. ” The house and the country of Hungary has stood upon this foundation for 1100 years. Hungary survived the great storms of history including the invasion of the armies of the Mongols and the 150 year Turkish occupation. At that time, the spiritual renewal was great. Hungary survived Trianon, the greatest loss in her history, when two thirds of her territory was lost along with more than half of her population. The nation survived Communist Marxist atheism and totalitarianism. How was this possible? I believe because Christ and His promise of the future was the center of most of the people 's hopes even at the time of trials and hardship. The early years of Hungarian history record that the Hungarians established relationships with the Byzantine Christianity. Stephen became the first Christian king in Hungary and he made a commitment to the Western church and received his crown from Pope Sylvester II. He ordered that every ten villages erect a church building, and he established dioceses and selected bishops to strengthen the people ’s Christian faith. All the kings of the Arpad dynasty followed his example. The nation’s religious and cultural life flourished throughout the centuries even amidst the trials and storms of history. There is an old saying that the greatest enemy of the Hungarians is the internal division and animosity amongst themselves. In the past decades, unfaithfulness to the Christian principles of life has produced the painful loss of lives through abortions encouraged during the Communist dominance which continues even today. The future of Hungary and every nation depends upon the faithfulness of its citizens to Christian principles. Let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul, Romans 8:35 “Who will separate us from the love of Christ ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is
