Midge and Pete Havery enjoying the music and the food. A RESTAURANT TO REMEMBER It was our 53rd anniversary and our son Robert and his lovely wife Bonnie wanted to celebrate it in style so they drove us to Boston for an over-nite stay at the Marriott Hotel in Copley Square. After we were settled into our hotel we headed across the street to Cafe Budapest. Two familiar figures came out of the restaurant as we were going in. It was Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin! We found ourselves in a beautiful entrance and were greeted by a lovely and charming lady who was the proprietress - Dr. Livia Hedda Rev-Kury. We asked her if it was Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin we just missed and she said it was and it was in Cafe Budapest that some of the scenes took place in the movie entitled “House Sitter.” We were escorted into the main dining room with a fireplace and beamed ceiling which gave you a feeling of a country tavern. The tables were set with fine china and crystal with white table cloths and red napkins and the red leather chairs were comfortable. There are three dining rooms - a Blue Room with Della Robbia framed entrance and blue leather chairs and rugs. The walls are hung with hand-painted Hungarian dishes and there is an antique hutch. The dishes are also Hungarian dishes with blue water glasses and white linen table cloths. The other dining room is decorated with pink moire covered walls, crystal chandeliers and pink rug. The chairs are covered with pink tapestry. A very elegant dining room. A very spacious and beautiful bar features some of the lovely Herend figurines. A violin and piano duet serenades its patrons. This restaurant is worth a visit to feel the elegant atmosphere. The menu features crepes, chicken paprikas, mushroom paprikas, Countrystyle soup with liver dumpling, gulyás soup, cherry soup, mixed grill on a wooden platter, beef, veal or chicken paprikas and many other dishes too long to list here. Our delightful hostess, Dr. Hedda Rev-Kury was very helpful in selecting tasty dishes and suggesting meals fit for a king. Dr. Hedda Rev-Kury is a native of Hungary and a one-time professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. She makes your visit to the restaurant an experience you will never forget. After our most delicious dinner, we were offered after-dinner drinks and were serenaded by a violinist that played with extraordinary skill. This was a most memorable and beautiful anniversary that our beloved children could give us and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Midge and Pete Havery FATHER ROBERT invocation; the Franciscan Friars Singing Group performed and presented the famous Abbott and Costello “Who’s on First?” to the delight of all. The Kalács centerpieces on each table were presented to those whose birthday was closest to June 10, Father’s ordination day. Presentations were made on behalf of: Holy Name Society; Ladies Guild; altar boys; Sunshine Club; C.Y.O.; Seniors; Doris Estock, Journal: and Frank Polke, ticket chairman. First Selectman Jacqueline Durrell’s official proclamation was read by Carl Dickman declaring that June 7,1992 is Father Robert D. Nemeth ’s Day in Fairfield. First Selectman Durrell presented Father with a gold key to the town of Fairfield as she said, with love from all 53,800 citizens. She expressed her appreciation for the Hungarians in the town, and the good that they have accomplished. Father stated that he wanted to make his speech short and sweet - but that was impossible - although it was sweet He again thanked all those present who took the time and made the effort to attend this special day in his life and for being a part of his life for twenty-five years. He knew 99% of all present by first names, and he was joyful to know such good people and wonderful, good friends who have been a part of his life. Fatherrecognized people who came from all distances. From Youngstown, Ohio; Henry and Doris Gillen from Jersey City, close friends from the Supreme Anchor Club of America, and organization where he was Supreme Chaplain for eight years; people coming from Florida (his aunt and uncle). He mentioned A1 Rembish and the International Order of the Alhambra (he is El Poder Caravan #161 Chaplain and State Chaplain). He thanked Anne Csontos and ladies for baking the beautiful kalács (centerpieces for the tables). Father also thanked his cameramen, Steve Havery and Frank Polke who videotaped the ceremonies for the day. He called attention to his family - his Father, brothers Don and Russell and sister Donna, nieces, nephews and grand-nephews. At the head table were some of his instructors, brother Friars, two Bishops, his assistants, parish workers for the church, a first assistant to Father Bero. He thanked the school sisters, renewed his old acquaintances, and introduced four members of his kindergarten class at Sherman School. He stated that they are separated only by distance. He mentioned the five Hungarian parishes, Ministers and Reverends. He introduced all who came from Transylvania as Rev. Havadtoy remarked that Father could be an honorary Transylvanian. At the close he thanked Frank Polke for his tremendous job as ticket chairman for the 852 people who came. It was a wonderful day - a loving tribute - to a very special priest who has inspired us to aspire to great achievements. His humility is a sign of true greatness! Father Robert, WE LOVE YOU!
