MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 21. oldal Rev.Dr. Attila Kocsis pastor, and the youth A revolution against the Communist leaders in Hungary in 1956 resulted in a massive exodus of young men and women leaving that country. The Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy, like so many Hungarian churches, became a haven to many Hungarians who were looking for a new home, and many church members opened their homes to these young people who were looking for refuge in America. In addition, some of our members even volunteered at Camp Kilmer in Edison, which was the gathering place for the refugees. The 50th anniversary of this event will be commemorated not only in Perth Amboy Hungarian churches, but in neighboring communities that had welcomed them. We are now looking for all those refugees who came to the Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy during this upheaval. It is our hope that these people can be honored in October during the 50th anniversary commemoration of this event. Anyone who knows the names of any of these people who left Hungary in 1956 and settled in our congregation are asked to contact the Pastor, Rev. Attila Kocsis, at 732-442-7799 so that they can be notified of our celebration.
