MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 7. oldal TEN YEARS IN GOD’S SERVICE, MISSION AND THE GREAT COMMISSION Dear Friends, The mission of our congregation is a responsible task, especially today when the Christian Community is under great pressures and influence of the world’s point of view politically, morally and financially. The past 10 years has not been an easy one for our church, however we look back with thankfulness in our heart, for God has been with us! It is a special privilege when we can give thanks to God for the hard times as well as the good times, but most importantly, to give thanks to God in all situations. It is not said in vain, that all things are for the benefit of the believer and prayer changes things. During our years of service we have seen miracles through prayer, life changing events, but also heartaches and much sorrow, illness and death. Still during these events many times we witnessed God’s presence, His ever-helping hand and mercy. We have a wonderful God! Our tireless efforts never went in vain and although sometimes it took many years to see any results for our earnest prayer or work, we never lost hope. Our mission is what Christ had given to us as a great commission, as well as a conditional promise in Matt 28:19-20. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age. ” This commandment and commission is for all of us to do and to be involved with. Christ showed us an example with his life. He continued to help people physically and spiritually and taught them about the attributes of God: love, grace, care, faithfulness and justice. We too need to do the same! We need to help the helpless, the sick and all who God sends in our way, never forgetting to let people know of the great love and sacrifice which God made for you and for me to be saved according to the scriptures written in John 3: 16-18: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not sent his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to sa\’e the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoe\’er does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. “ We do not have a church building of our own, but we have a big task and mission. Our service in the community is a demanding task, which we try to fulfill as best humanly possible. You being with us today is part of our mission. We gratefully acknowledge and thank the Campus Crusade in Christ Christian Organization and Dr. Joseph Csabai that for the first time in Western Canada and the USA a film is able to be handed out called “The Life of Jesus” in both Hungarian and English, to be obedient to the commission of Jesus. The Hungarian Reformed Church of Vancouver had a special desire to commemorate its 10th year in God’s Service and its mission and distribute this film free of charge. As you return to your homes and finished watching this movie, our prayer is that you would be blessed and be enriched in faith and in spirit as well as become a blessing by passing the movie on to others. Dear Friends, we ask you to stand with us and continue to help us prayerfully and financially, so that you would become partners and enable us to continue our God given mission with in the Hunganan-Canadian Community. The “Life of Jesus” film is given free, however we gratefully accept any donation to cover the costs. For your kind donation an official Income Tax receipt will be issued at the end of the fiscal year. Checks may be made out to the: Hungarian Reformed Church of Vancouver, and sent it to our office: 7159 McKay Ave., Burnaby, BC, V5J 3S6 We will continue to carry this film and it can be picked up or sent in DVD or VHS format. The Lord watch over your life in your comings and goings. The Lord be kind and gracious to you. May his love fill your heart and give you peace now and forevermore. Amen. Atheists' Very Own Holiday In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation for Easter and Passover holidays and decided to contact the local ACLU about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while the atheists had no holiday to celebrate. The ACLU jumped on the opportunity to once again pick up the cause of the godless and assigned their sharpest attorneys to the case. The case was brought before a wise judge who after listening to the long, passionate presentation of the ACLU lawyers, promptly banged his gavel and declared, "Case dismissed!" The lead ACLU lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? Surely the Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. And the Jews-why in addition to Passover they have Yom Kippur and Hanukkah. Yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!" The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, "Obviously your client is too confused to know about, or for that matter, even celebrate the atheists' holiday!" The ACLU lawyer pompously said "We are aware of no such holiday for atheists; just when might that be, your honor?" The judge said "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date—April 1st!" The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." - Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53:1
