MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 17. oldal Our Missions and Outreach Committee warm the hearts and hands by cooking and serving meals for the Salvation Army’s Shelter during the winter months. They also provide an ongoing food pantry for the Salvation Army and other families that are in need of assistance. During the Holiday season, they headed the Opera­tion Christmas Child shoe box project where they received donations of toys and small gifts from members of our con­gregation that were put together for chil­dren who are less fortunate. Our Sun­day School children also helped out with this project by fill­ing and decorating the boxes. Our church made dona­tions to the Asian tsunami and hurri­cane Katrina victims as well as collecting clothing for the poor of Appalachia. Our most recent project is the restoration of our church windows. Some events planned to aid in the monetary expense are a stuffed cabbage dinner, potato pancake dinner, cabbage and noodle and hurka and kolbász sale. This not only helps finan­cially but it also brings our members together to enjoy delicious food and fellowship. We also held our traditional Holiday Auc­tion; various bake sales and just recently our yearly Congrega­tional Meeting. We ask the Lord’s blessing upon the two newly elected elder Bonita Eldredge’s and László Kovacs’s life and ser­vice. The Pastors at the flag pose On March 15th our congregation hosted the 39th Annual Hungarian Independence Celebration. The four Hungarian Churches of Perth Amboy give an excellent example how we can cooperate together, how we can preserve our national heritage. At the City Hall Circle we raised the Hungarian flag and welcomed Dr. Gabor Horvath, Consul General who was the keynote speaker of this remarkable event. The Mayor of the town sent his Procla­mation and expressed his gratitude to the Hungarian community for their contributions, support and the dedication to the city where they live. Although our congregation is small in number and the averages in year 2005, 82 people per Sunday Service, (including the English, and Hungarian services, plus the Sunday School) they always seem to lend a helping hand by providing their time and service to others as well as foreseeing and maintaining the church grounds. We are truly blessed with members who care enough to offer their faith and love for the future of His church. Drótos Árpád Főgondnok: Szinay Sándor Szombat esti istentiszteletek New Yorkban Interjú a New York-i Magyar Református Egyház lelkipásztorával- Mikor és hogyan vetődött fel a gondolat, hogy szom­batonként istentisztelet legyen? Már régi tervem, hogy szombatonként is tartsunk isten­tiszteleteket. Ennek több oka volt. Az egyik az, hogy - tudtam - Brooklyn-ban rengeteg olyan magyar személy dolgozik, akik csak ezen a napon kapnak szabadságot. A másik ok az volt, hogy Jézus Krisztus első tanítványai szombaton is összegyűltek az Urat imádni, de a vasárnapot is megtartották, amely a feltámadásra emlékeztette őket. Legutóbb 2006. január 22-én, vasárnap beszélgettünk a tervről egy nyitott presbiteri gyűlésen. Ezen az alkalmon Takács Anna kedves egyháztagunk rögtön fe­lajánlotta a segítségét.- Mikor lesz az első? Az első találkozó 2006. február 25-én, szombaton dé­lután 2 órakor lesz Takács Anna lakásán (4916 13th Ave 2nd FI., Brooklyn, D. és M. földalatti az 50th St. megálló). Tájékoztatást a következő telefonszámokon adunk: Takács Anna 347-731-6157 vagy Nt.Drótos Árpád 212-734-3139. Mindenkit szeretettel várunk.- Hány embert várnak? Igaz, hogy egy lakásban gyűlünk egyenlőre, ahol 40 fónél többen nem nagyon fémek el, de a későbbiekben arra számí-tunk, hogy egyre többen eljönnek azok közül, akik ezrével dolgoznak Brooklyn-ban. Ehhez azonban egy Brooklyn-i tem­plom segítségét fogjuk kérni.- Milyen sűrűn tervezik? Az istentiszteletek sűrűsége teljes mértékben az igénytől és a buzgóságtól függ. Természetesen szeretnénk minden héten találkozni, de elképzelhető, hogy eleinte csak havonta egyszer lesz istentisztelet. The Day of the Hungarian Independence
