10. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ CENTRAL CLASSIS MEETING The Central Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America held its annual meeting at the Hungarian Reformed Evangelical Christian Church in Toronto, ON in Canada on Thursday, May 26. György Nagy, Ecclesiastical Secretary, pastor of the Windsor, ONT congregation ministered to the participants with the Word of God in Worship service. Following the service Rev. Nagy presented minutes of the meeting held in 2004. At the beginning of his report, Dean Varga shared with the representatives of Classis that the Rt.Rev.Andor Demeter, Bishop due to his manifold pastoral responsibilities is unable to be present and read his letter of warm and brotherly greetings asking God’s blessings upon the work of the Central Classis. With a feeling of great loss and deepest sympathy the assembly remembered the Rev. Paul Mezo who was called home to his heavenly Father early this year. Rev. Mezo was the founder and faithful pastor of the Toronto church for almost three decades. He also served as Ecclesiastical Secretary of the Synod and as Dean of the Central Classis. Our congregations in Allen Park MI, Duquesne and McKeesport, PA as well as Toronto and Windsor, Ontario continue to be self-supporting and working faithfully. Their spiritual activities such as Sunday worship services are held on a regular basis and, the Sacraments are administered. Bible Study Hours, Sunday School and Confirmation Classes are held depending on the local circumstances or as needed. The preservation of our precious Hungarian heritage continues to be high priority for all of us. The various groups in the congregations organize events that provide cultural entertainment that promote our Hungarian traditions. The church in Toronto, Ontario is still vacant. Currently the Rev. Eva Jolán Mezo, daughter of Paul Mezo stepped into her father’s footsteps and is serving as interim pastor. The congregation is planning to call her as their regular pastor. Prior to the Classis Meeting the Ministerial Qualifying Committee of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America conducted the examination of the Rev. Eva Jolán Mezo. Based on her academic credentials, personal testimony, and sense of call to the ministry the committee re-commended her to be eligible for call in the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. The delegates enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Toronto congregation and the delicious and generous dinner prepared by the Ladies Aid. The afternoon session began with the ordination of Rev. Eva Jolán Mezo by Rev. Frank Varga, Dean and Rev. György Nagy Ecclesiastical Secretary. Our guest speaker this year was the Rev. Csilla Lucskai, Chaplain of the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, PA. In her thorough report Rev. Lucskai vividly described all aspects of her ministry to all the residents of the Ligonier Gardens and the Bethlen Home. She informed us that the grand opening or moving day is going to take place on June 22 of this year and the preparatory work is all done. The meeting of Classis Central was adjourned in a worshipful and prayerful spirit and with encouragement to all participants to continue faithfully in fulfilling the Great Commission Jesus Christ the Head of our church gave us. Very Rev. Frank Varga, Dean of the Eastern Classis ANNUAL MEETING OF THE EASTERN CLASSIS The Eastern Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America held its annual meeting on Sunday, March 6th at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Bethlehem, PA. The opening devotional was delivered by the host pastor Rev. Ronald Hari. Then Robert Csizma, Chief Elder of the host congregation gave his words of welcome. Following the opening of the Assembly by Dean Rev. Barnabas Roczey the roll call was initiated. When the Dean declared the 2005 Annual Meeting to be fully constituted, a motion was made and approved to seat all corresponding members. The agenda of the Meeting was considered and approved along with distributed copies of March 7th , 2004 past Annual Meeting and also with the current Report of Dean. Then Bishop Andor Demeter gave his address to the Assembly, emphasizing that we are a living Church now in serving our members and praised God for the signs of graceful vitality he went to observe while visiting the various congregations. The Assembly also heard the Report of the Dean, Chief Elder Frank Király and the Treasurer Andrew Lovász. The Reports were accepted with thanks, however due to time limitations no Congregational report were heard. Then, before recess Dean Roczey appointed the following committees: Recommendation, Finance and Nominating. Following the recess, the reports of the committees were made and accepted by the Assembly. Specifically, the members considered but finally rejected to move up their Sunday meeting times to the preceding Saturday date. The Classis then remembered its recently passed members by giving thanks to God for their contribution in His Church. Announcements of upcoming events in the congregation were made the place and date of the 2006 Classis Meeting was determined. Then the Assembly was invited to a delicious fellowship dinner offered by the host congregation following the Adjournment and prayers offered. Rev. László Ujj, Ecclesiastical Secretary of the Eastern Classis WE ARE BODY OF CHRIST On the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California reside the largest trees in the world. The huge sequoias tower almost 300 feet into the sky. The largest tree has a circumference at its base of 101 feet. Botanists now know that some of the biggest sequoias are almost 4,000 years old-which means that at the time of Christ, they were already more than 100 feet tall ! But even these giants wouldn’t be able to stand against the California winds without a strong root system. Not only do their roots sink into the soil, they intertwine around the roots of other trees. The parallel between well-rooted trees and well-rooted believers is obvious. We are part of the body of Christ and we all need each other.
