Szeptember elején a lelkipásztor találkozott Szöllőssy Pállal, a Svájci Magyar Protestáns Szövetség elnökével, akit tájékoztatott gyülekezetünk életéről. A hónap közepén pedig Cseh György kollégámmal együtt találkoztunk Pécs város polgármester helyettesével, aki együttműködéséről biztosította a New York-i magyar gyülekezetei. A két New York-i magyar református lelkész felváltva mond asztali áldást az Arany János Magyar Nyelvű Iskola szombati ebédjei előtt és hívogatja — eddig nem sok eredménnyel — a gyermekeket és szüleiket a vasárnapi istentiszteletre. A lelkipásztor továbbfolytatja cserkésztevékenységét. Jelenleg magyar népdalok és vallásos énekek tanítására kapott megbízást a New York-i csapatoktól. Drótos Árpád, lelkipásztor PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY Pastor: István Torok 331 Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, New Jersey 08861 Telephone: (908) 442-4799 Sunday school has opened in September. Classes are held every Sunday morning from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., during the English Worship Service. Capable teachers and good educational material is awaiting for our children. Parents, please make every effort to offer a balanced education to your children. Every last Sunday of the month is celebrated as Family Sunday. The Christian Youth Fellowship is sponsoring a canned goods food drive for Thanksgiving. To make sure that their food drive is successful, they have informed the elders of the church that unless the membership will cooperate with them, they intend to kidnap the Pastor and hold him hostage. On behalf of the church elders, we pleaded with our members to help the project of the Youth Fellowship, so we can keep our Pastor for the holidays. Since the early steps of the 21st Century Committee presentation, our church has taken an active role in preparing plans for the next century. The following Committees have been meeting on a monthly basis: Grounds and Upkeep Committee: Responsibility is to keep an eye on all necessary repairs around the church. If you find any items that need attention, please get in touch with our Chief Elder, Mr. Kim Latkovich. Cemetery Committee: Responsibility is to handle items arising with the upkeep of the cemetery, repairs and items relating to our disposal. (Many items end up in our disposal that is not cemetery related.) Please keep an eye on our cemetery. Mission Committee: Responsibility is to involve our church in serving our mission. They have identified 5 areas - food banks, Salvation Army, Eyes to the Needy and Angel Flights. One other area is denominational assistance to a needy congregation. Rules and Regulations Committee: This Committee is feverishly working on detailed rules of church membership, duties and responsibilities, as well as hall rental rules. Upon the completion of their work, a detailed report will be available for all church members. Christian Education Committee: Responsibility is to teach our young people, as well as adults, the Word of God, both in Sunday school and in Bible Study classes. Hospitality Committee: Responsibility of this Committee is to bring our members closer and to create opportunities for fellowship within the church. Sunshine Committee: Responsibility is to reach our members who are sick or shut-in by sending them a card or visiting them. We are always in need of our members informing us if someone is sick, needs a visit, a prayer or just someone to talk to. Financial Committee: Responsibility for the investment of our reserves, and offering suggestions for the greater use of our funds for the good of the church. We have made a good beginning in these Committees. It is up to us to get involved and make this church a more loving and caring fellowship. We urge everyone to join hands and get involved in the life of the church. We count on everyone and welcome everyone. Only those who stay away close themselves out of our fellowship, but not out of love, prayer and care of the Lord. Ezen számunkban közölt cikkekért köszönetét mondunk a „Presbiter” szerkesztőségének, valamint a Hollywood, CA és Perth Amboy, NJ-i gyülekezeti híradókból átvett anyagokért.
