MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15. oldal Örömmel jelentem azt is, hogy az idén három konfírmándusunk lesz. A Biblia-órák, a vallásos és magyar témájú videóvetítések, valamint a frissen bevezetett Magyar Est-ek remélem még közelebb hozzák az Öböl-környéki magyarságot és egyházunk tagjait: lelkileg, szellemileg és szociálisan is, mely perspektívát is nyújt egyházunk működéséhez. Az 1998-as esztendőre a következő egyháztagokat választottuk meg tisztségviselőknek: főgondnoknak Farkas Istvánt, gazdasági gondnoknak Fövenyessy Károlyt és dr. Zakhár Róbertét, tiszteletbeli főgondnoknak, főjegyzőnek és pénztárosnak Magyary Kossá Istvánt. Bordás Zoltánt, Bordás Piroskát, Kenéz Ilonát, Magyary Ilonát, Rácz Erzsébetet és Stupián Esztert presbiternek választotta meg a közgyűlés. Presbiternek választottuk meg Éva Traggart nőtestvérünket, Szőke János néhai lelkipásztor trestvérünk leányát, aki immár három évtizede szolgálja hűséggel egyházunkat és szervezi a Saratogában tartandó istentiszteleteket és szeretetvendégségeket. A Nőegylet vezetését továbbra is Stupián Eszter elnök, Megyesi T. Giziké és Rácz Erzsébet végzik. A saratogai közösséget Eckles Mária és Taggart Éva vezeti. A Nőegylet pénztárosa Bordás Piroska. Isten gazdag áldását kérem életükre és munkásságukra. Természetesen a vezető testületet kiváló egyháztagjaink segítik buzgó és állhatatos munkájukkal. Isten gazdag áldása kísérje életüket és szolgálataikat. Bízván abban, hogy Isten nemcsak próbatétellel, hanem áldásaival is meglátogat bennünket, maradunk jóreménységgel ez esztendőben is, áldván mindenkoron az Ő szent nevét. Redwood City, 1998 tavaszán. Katona Jenő, lelkipásztor STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK Pastor: Leslie Martin, Seminarian Chief Elder: Linda Hauck 19 Winant Place, Staten Island, New York 10309 The congregation of the Magyar Reformed Church of Staten Island faced an enormous challenge in 1997 - filling the pulpit vacancy. After serving this congregation for 24+ years, Rev. August J. Molnár made the decision to conclude his service with this church. In September 1997, we honored Rev. Molnár with a luncheon where many friends, old and new, gathered to wish him God’s blessings for the future. In addition to his family, the guests who joined us included Rev. Dr. Imre Bertalan and Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, bishop and his wife. At the same time, we welcomed Leslie Martin and his wife Linda. August Molnár, Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz. September. Through the years, God has guided us and blessed graciously, especially in time of real need. Once again, He has answered our prayers. The Sunday School children participated in the Christmas holiday festivities. They decorated the Christmas tree with traditional gilded walnuts, mézeskalács and crocheted snowflakes. During the annual Christmas party, they recited poems and sang Christmas hymns. Our annual congregational meeting was held on February 1, 1998. The newly reelected officers of the Board of Elders for 1998 are: President: Linda Hauck, Vice President: Jeff Nemeth, Treasurer: Helen Cutler, Secretary: Eleanor Szász. Since January, we have been busy planning our 1998 calendar. In May 1998, we plan to host a dinner to officially welcome Leslie and Linda Martin. Les will have completed one year of studies at Princeton Seminary at that point, and also will have served this Staten Island church every Sunday since September providing worship services as our student pastor. The dinner should be a good opportunity for many friends of the congregation within the community to meet them and to visit the church once again. The Board of Elders has discussed plans to upgrade the building and property. A new insulating door was installed in the kitchen, and in the spring we plan to replace our front yard fencing and do some exterior painting. Thankfully, there is no major maintenance problem. A Mother’s Day celebration is being planned. The Sunday School children will recite poems during church service and they will distribute flowers to the ladies, which they have actually grown themselves from seed. We are so grateful that we are able to continue the Lord’s work here in this Staten Island church, and that we are able to continue to worship together in our beloved church. Linda Hauck
