MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 7. oldal Committee was concerned with the election of a lay representative as Commissioner to the General Assembly, following the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Novak. The Committee recommended and unanimously accepted Mr. Robert Zambo to fill the position. Also, with the passing of Mr. Alex B. Eger, Classis Attorney, the position was open and The roll call... Left to right: Rev. Edwin Stern, Balint Balogh, Chief Elder, Rev. Stefan M Torok, Dean and Andrew C Lovász, Treasurer the Committee recommended Mr. William Puskas, Jr., to fill it. The Assembly accepted this recommendation, the Recommendation Committee reported on recommendations pertaining to our church life. The decision of the Assembly was to communicate these recommendations in the near future to the congregations of the Classis. Following the committee reports, the Dean asked the Chief Elder of the Synod, Mr. Stephen Szabó, to give information on the upcoming events of the 3rd Hungarian Reformed World Gathering, planned for August in Transylvania, and the 1100th Anniversary of Hungary. Mr. Szabó indicated that there were all kinds of informations coming from both sides of the ocean, that the World Gathering of the Hungarian Reformed people has been canceled by the Rumanian government, which are not true. The plans go on and without any greater problems, the gathering will be held. He also mentioned the manifold celebrations, in connection with the 1100th Anniversary of Hungary, and some of the definite sights of the celebrations including the visit of Pope John Paul II. Dean Torok asked the Rev. Peter Toth to keep us up-to-date on the Concert Tour of the Sárospatak Reformed Collegium Choir. Rev. Toth indicated that the Choir will arrive on March 28th and in the immediate vicinity, the concerts will be held in Passaic, NJ, Perth Amboy, NJ, and New Brunswick, NJ. Suggested ticket prices have been established by the Committee at $10.00 per person. The Assembly continued with the memorial service, conducted by Rt. Rev. Dezső Abraham, remembering in prayer all those ministers and elders who have gone to the Lord. Dean Torok requested information on the upcoming events in our congregations and urged greater cooperation between the churches. As a final item on the agenda, the Perth Amboy Magyar Reformed Church extended an invitation to next year’s Assembly, to be held on the first Sunday of March. Before closing our Annual Assembly, on behalf of the host congregation, Mr. Leonard Sendelsky extended an invitation to all in attendance to the Fellowship Dinner. We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the members of the Carteret congregation for inviting us and for the wonderful fellowship of the afternoon, including the dinner.
