MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11. oldal UNITED WE STAND - DIVIDED WE FALL “Where two of three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 I am a staunch member of our Hungarian Reformed Church and of the Lorantffy Women’s Guild. I attended many conferences of the Church Women United and was elected twice as their secretary. I would like to address my opinion of the pros and cons I have been witness to. The women play a major roll in keeping our churches alive and well with their enthusiasm and dedication. I comment the ladies for their energies they generate to our cause. As president of the Lorantffy Ladies Guild of Carteret, NJ, I wish to extend an invitation especially to the absent churches to join with us in future conferences. The 1996 conference will be held on May 5 and hosted by the Lorantffy Women’s Guild of Carteret, NJ. At our 1995 conference, I was a little dismayed and disappointed in the very little support which was given to the Hungarian College in Transylvania. We must remember that in our past and present times, the vast majority of our ministers were trained overseas in universities to our advantage here in the USA. I firmly believe we should show our gratitude and appreciation to serve and support our universities abroad. May the beacon of light shine brightly upon the educators that make it possible for mankind to enter into the ministry. They enrich our lives with the wonderful spiritual qualities. In recognition and appreciation they deserve our support. I was born in the U.S.A. and my heart also belongs to Hungary. The great majority of us were born to Hungarian immigrants. This country was built on their faith, courage and sacrifices. It is my greatest privilege and pleasure to serve our cause. God’s gift to you is unconditional love and the light of why we are here. God is calling each of us to serve as ambassadors in this capacity in joining together our God given talents. I would like to reach out to join together in love and fellowship. Together we can accomplish a great many things. We were all born on this planet with a very good purpose in mind. To serve God to the fullest in this free county of ours. A great majority of us do not realize how lucky we are in our freedom. There are many counties in the world in which the privilege of freedom has been taken away. We have inherited the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion which has been bestowed upon us. I wish to be instrumental in-uniting all of the women in all of our congregations to join together in our talents to a worthy and everlasting cause. No one wants to see the death of our organizations which was built on solid rock. In all of our generations past and present, we have been the survivors and wish to be till the end of time which can only be accomplished in uniting together. I believe God wants us to stretch far beyond our capabilities. No matter how insignificant our role seems to us, we are special and worthy in the eyes of God. No one else can take our place, for no one else can give what we have to give. Our talents and abilities are uniquely our very own and we use them to promote harmony to build a strong foundation to enhance our cause. Let us use the gifts we possess and do not keep them dormant. We are declining in number. We do not wish to be a vanishing race. Our goal is to save what we have now and to build upon it. It is never too late to start all over again. One last plea - come join with us! “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3 We are looking forward to seeing all of you on May 5, 1996. God be with you till we meet again! God Loves You and So Do I Pearl Hatten 171 EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS RUN BY CHURCHES IN HUNGARY Hungary’s Roman Catholic, Reformed and Lutheran communities run 171 educational institutions between them, representing about three percent of the national total, compared to 60 percent before the second world war. All schools and colleges owned by religious organizations before the 1948 consolidation of communist rule are to be returned to the religious groups by the year 2001, bringing the churches’ share to six percent of all current educational institutions.
