MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13. oldal LÁSZLÓ CSŰRÖS (1914 - 1992) The world community of Reformed Hungarians mourn the death of László Csűrös who passed away after grave illness on October 7, 1992. He was founder and until his death, and chief elder of the London based Hungarian Reformed Church in the United Kingdom. For many years he was also a lay preacher of the Church. For over 40 years he was active in the British-Hungarian Cultural Fellowship and organizer of the Church’s monthly cultural events. In the wider Hungarian Reformed fellowship he was President of the Hungarian Reformed Pastoral Service in Western Europe for ten years. He was a Knight of Honor of the Hungarian Association of the Order of St. John. The funeral sermon was based on 2.Timothy 4:7-8. We shall remember László Csűrös as a faithful of God and the Hungarian Reformed Church. Andrew Harsanyi FROM THE CHURCH IN THE WORLD Argentina. The American Bible Society has recently negotiated with four bus lines in Argentina to print Bible verses on the back of bus tickets. It is hoped that people will read the Scripture at some point on their journey. The new Executive Director of the U S. Office of the World Council of Churches is Jean Schact Strombers, an American Baptist. Her office is at 475 Riverside Drive, New York City. The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Basil Hume, told at a meeting of private schools, held in Bruges, Belgium, that there is a need to accept ethnic and cultural diversity in the Europe of the future. It is no longer possible for countries to try to maintain ethnic and cultural uniformi­ty. The need is for genuine respect for the dignity and /freedom of others, a generosity of spirit, and a willingness to serve. Albania. In October, the broadcasting station in Tirana the capital city of Albania that once broadcasted communist propaganda around the world, has begun airing evangelical Christian programs to Eastern Europe. One half to one third of the Christian Churches in the world are in the Third World. Some of them are not poor and needy or in need of Western missionary work. They are just as African or Asian colored as European-American-Chris­­tian Churches are Western colored. Estonia. The US-based United Bible Societies reported that the Estonian Bible Society was re-established after forced to close in 1940, following the annexation of Estonia by the then-Soviet-Union. The EBS wasfounded in 1812. At the recent re-opening it was suggested that the EBS encour­age the translation of the Bible into minority Finno-Ugric languages. Nobel Peace Prize. Karácsonyi Bazárunk idén nagyon jó fogadtatást kapott és látogatottsága meghaladta az elmúlt évit, hála dolgos tagjainknak. Magyarországról látogatóink voltak. Nt. Régius Judit református lelkész, a magyarországi Confessio folyóirat munkatársa látogatott meg bennünket, s vett részt istentisz­teletünkön. Novemberben Nt. Boros Gyula, a budapesti Fasori Gyülekezet pásztora volt vendégünk presbiteri gyűlé­sünkön. A gyülekezet lelkészének beiktatása novemberi5-én volt, mely alkalomról az újság más oldalán beszámolót olvashatunk. Jelenleg az ezévi karácsonyi kirándulásunkat szervez­zük, valamint a költségvetésünket erősen terhelő templomfelújítási munkálatokat tervezzük.
