About 60 members remained together and with their participation we evaluated the past year, and made plans for the future. The meeting was held in a peaceful atmosphere. After the official reports of the congregation, which was also prepared in the form of a Yearbook, came time for the election of the Officers of the church and members of the church council. The results are as follows: Chief Elder: Mr. Robert Zambo; Vice-Presidents: Mr. Charles Gabos and Elizabeth Novak; Secretary: Mrs. Pamela Lovász; Treasurer: Mr. John S. Kovács; and Assistant Treasurer: Mr. Andrew C. Lovász. New members of the Church Council: Mr. Mark Banyacski, Mr. Ronald Czebrowski and Mrs. Arlene Sabo. The oath of office was administered to the full Council on March 5th, during our English service, and corporate Holy Communion was served to the Council. On this same day the Women’s Guild celebrating their 42nd Anniversary participated in corporate Holy Com­munion. Official picture taking was also accomplished. On March 11th under the sponsorship of the Church a Covered Dish Dinner was held in honor of the newly elected officers, and members of our church organizations. Truly attendance was good, and we express our thanks to all who by preparing their specialties of food, made this a joyful fellowship. In the absence of our pastor on March 12th from the congregation, Divine Worship Services were conducted by Bishop Emeritus Dezső Abraham. Our pastor was the main speaker at the Rahway Hungarian Citizens Club. On March 15th our congregation joined together with other Hungarian churches and organizations in a Flag Rais­ing Ceremony commemorating the 1848 events in our na­tional history. The celebration was hosted by Our Lady of Hungary Church, where a short Hungarian program and time for fellowship was held. On March 19th Palm Sunday, during our English Wor­ship service we greeted the teachers and students of our Christian Education, when they presened us with their East­er program. We express our thanks and appreciation both to teachers and students alike. During the Easter Holidays the following occasions brought us together as the people of God. Maundy-Thurs­­day we held an English service, during which we commem­orated the Last Supper of our Lord in the company of His disciples. On March 24th, Good-Friday Hungarian worship service was held at 10:00 a.m. At Noon we participated in the Good-Friday Community service by the Clergy Associa­tion at Grace Lutheran Church, and at 7:00 p.m. the same day English worship service was held at our church. On Easter Sunday celebrating the resurrection of Christ our Lord and Saviour we held worship service both in English and Hungarian and participated in the Holy Com­munion. On April 7th under the sponsorship of the Women’s Guild a successful Chinese Auction was held in our church center. On April 10th the sister of our Pastor Ilona Balogh born Torok, arrived for a family visit, which brought joy and happiness into tht life of the Pastor and his wife Cindy. On the coming month our church calendar is filled again. On May 4th Ascension Thursday we gather together for the open confession of our young people in Confirma­tion, when the following young people will be accepted into adult membership of the church: Jessica Bereczky, Todd Cairns, Karen Lovász and Tara Silagyi. May God guide them in their Christian paths. On the first Sunday of May, the Annual Women’s Conference will be held at our sister church in Trenton, where a great majority of our women will participate. On the second Sunday in May, we commemorate Pentecost, and give our honor and thanksgiving to Almighty God for the gift of mothers in our midst and remember those who have given their lives back to Him. We encourage all our members to come and join us in Christian fellowship at any and all occasion in the com­pany of the Church. YOUNGSTOWN, OH Pot Luck Supper was held Saturday evening, January 14th for all Elders and Department Heads to plan and schedule all activities for the year. The 150 Club banquet was held Saturday evening, Jan­uary 21st at Mr. B’s Restaurant. On Sunday, January 29, Reverend Fuleki and several members of our church attended the induction services of Reverend Daniel Borsay and the banquet that followed in McKeesport. Reverend Fuleki participated in the services. Our Annual Congregational Meeting was held on Sunday, February 5th following morning worship services. Two new Elders were elected: Ralph Iagulli and James Johnson. Mrs. Adam Hokvarth celebrated her 94th birthday in Feb­ruary. May God continue to richly bless her. She can still thread a needle without the use of eyeglasses of any kind. The Sunday School Department sponsored a Pork and Sauerkraut dinner on Sunday, February 19th. The church hall was packed to capacity as usual. First Sunday in Lent Communion services were held on February 12th. Sisters in Friendship also sponsored a 6 hour CPR course that afternoon. On Sunday, March 5th, Maria Vince Yane held a class on the art of decorating Easter eggs in traditional Hungarian style. The local Hungarian community commemorated the 1848 War of Independence at St. Stephen’s Church on Sunday, March 12th. Our Ladies Aid Society held their annual chicken papri­­kash dinner on Sunday, March 12th. Again it was a sold out successful event. Men of the church made kolbász for sale for the Easter holiday. Funerals: Mrs. Benjamin Szadayi in January and Mrs. Pearl Linden in February. Mrs. Szadayi would have been 99 years old in February. She was the first president of our Ladies Aid Society and dedicated member of our church since its inception. May the comforting power of God be with the families they left behind. May the grace and peace of our risen Lord abide in us as well as in you.
