8. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ HETEDIK MAGYAR TALÁLKOZÓ - AUSZTRÁLIÁBAN Magyar születésű ausztrál állampolgár vagyok Adelaide­­ből, Dél-Ausztrália. A költemény a „Hetedik Találkozó” emlékére íródott. A mellékelt zászlós fényképek és a költemény annyira megnyerte az ausztráliai magyarság tetszését, hogy ezidáig több mint 300 fényképet és költeményt küldtek emlékezte­tőül a földünk világtájain várakozva élő magyar hozzátar­tozóiknak és ismerőseiknek, hogy élénkítsék magyarságtu­datunkat. Kérném figyelembe venni azt a tényt, hogy a dél-ausz­trál kormány részéről olyan megtiszteltetés érte a „Hetedik Magyar Találkozó fönségéből az összmagyarságot”, ami fe­lejthetetlen a száműzetésben élő népünk életében. Ausztrália 200 éves jubileumával egybeeső Hetedik Magyar Találkozó megnyitásának napjától a nagyméretű magyar zászlók a fő helyen, az ausztrál zászlókkal együtt lobogtak, hirdetve a „magyar találkozó szellemiségét. Ilyen emlékeztető esemény ezidáig, a külföldi vártákon élő ma­gyarságunk életében nem volt. Magyar lelkünk izzó tüze, Lángol fáklyánk fényében. Magyarságunk küzdő szellemében, Emese ősanyánk teremtő szózata Dicsőséges nemzeti szimfónia! Történelmi múltunk föltámadása. Ősturáni nyelvünk varázsában, Évezredek történelmének sugallata Istenünk tanító parancsában Tudatunkat alkotásra buzdítja. Földünk körbehajlott hátán, Megannyi nyíló magyar háznál, Hangozzon hetedszer az izenet: Magyarok! Ébredjetek! Ébredjetek! Repülj! Turulmadár! Repülj! Szederkénny Ferenc Andor Demeter and Zoltán Kun elected Chief Officers of the Western Classis The annual meeting of the Western Classis of the Hun­garian Reformed Church in America was held May 14-15, 1988 in the church of Phoenix, Arizona. Dean Denes Ta­­mas and Chief Elder Edmund Vig presided. All congrega­tions with the exception of two were represented by their pastors and chief elders. Bishop Harsanyi and his wife were honored guests. Dean Tamas gave a detailed report in Hungarian while Mr. Vig spoke in English giving his reasons why he de­cided not to seek reelection: “Communication must he done in the language done by the majority. There are still a lot of church officers and congregations that are more com­fortable when they speak and write in the Hungarian lan­guage. I am sorry that I am not a better bilinguist. There has been quite a bit of our meetings, letters and discussion over the past years and the Hungarian language was the one that was used. Translating was not always readily available or were difficult to come by. Therefore, I felt that I could not do the best job possible in the delibera­tions that are so necessary to keep peace and harmony amongst our Hungarian Reformed Churches.” The proceedings of the meeting were often switched from one language to the other. On the second day, which was Sunday, the morning worship service sermon in Hun­garian was preached by the Reverend Dr. Dezső Trombitás while the one in English by Bishop Dr. Andrew Harsanyi. This was a meeting of election of classis officers. The congregation elected the Reverend Andor Demeter, pastor of the Phoenix Church, to be the new dean and Mr. Zol­tán Kun from the McKeesport Church to be the new chief elder. The new Classis Judicial Committee is composed of Pastors Denes Tamas, Pal Mező, Imre A. Bertalan and elders György Maroskuty, Ernő Torok and Ferenc Jakab. The meeting then elected the Reverend György Nagy and Mr. Frank Király as ecclesiastical resp. lay classis secreta­ries: Mr. Andrew Nagy became the new classis treasurer. The Rev. Nagy was elected to his second term. The new dean and chief elder weer sworn in by Bishop Emeritus Dezső Abraham, the rest of the new officers by Dean Demeter. The meeting passed a number of recommendations: to use a Pulpit Exchange Program, to remind the congrega­tions to pay their classis assessments, to clarify by a constitutional amendment the rules in regard to selling and buying church properties, to care for the increasingly suf­fering Hungarian refugees in the old country, to take the visitation of church members by the pastors very seriously and to organize Vacation Bible Schools where possible. The recommendation of the Duquesne Church in regard to the division of the classis because of great geographical dis­tances was not voted on; Bishop Harsanyi reminded the classis that according to the church constitution the assign­ment of congregations into classes belongs into the compe­tence of the synod. It was greatly appreciated that Mr. Anthony C. Beke (and his wife), chief elder of the synod, participated in this meeting. ANNUAL MEETING ON THE WESTERN CLASSIS
