12. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ good news, and the wrath of many with his sharp word of truth. People blessed him and others cursed him; many were healed and loved him but some didn’t understand him and hated him. And then came that horrible day on the hill of Golgotha where her son was nailed to the cross. Two crosses were erected right and left of his and two impostors were nailed on them. Mary was under the cross, leaning on the beloved disciple John, sunk into herself from pain. There was a silence of horror when Mary suddenly heard a loud voice crying: “What a Messiah you are! Get the three of us out of this- Try your hand at this! Talk later!” The voice came from one of the impostors. The man continued, loud and cursing, now speaking to the other impostor: “Do you hear me, Dismas? You said, you knew this man. Maybe you can get him do something for us!” “Dismas, Dismas; who was Dismas?” The scene at the oasis 33 years before suddenly broke forth from Mary’s memory. Of course, it was the youth, the son of the chief of the bandits who robbed them on their way from Bethlehem to Egypt. Dismas. Oh yes, he was the one who spoke those words asking the baby to remember him when he would be in need of mercy. Mary looked up to the impostor who would be Dismas; she thought she recognized him. Not the rugged face of the impostor wrung with pain she saw but the tender lines of the youth who didn’t harm her baby. Before she could continue with her memories she heard the voice of Dismas rebuking the other impostor: “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? For we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” Then Mary heard the voice of Dismas turn very soft: “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingly power.” The next word came Írom the lips of her son, warm but firm with certainty: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” “You see,” Ailred was saying to his monks, “I wanted to tell you about the Baby Jesus, how he was saved during his flight from Bethlehem, the city of his birth; and I ended up at the foot of the cross.” Abbot Ailred stopped here and there was a long silence. Then he said it very slowly: “You know, Brethren, no matter how long and how sinful our life’s journey is, those who love Jesus as a baby will be remembered by him. But” — and Abbot Ailred lifted his finger and his voice became resounding — “only if we meet him at his cross.” Andrew Harsanyi — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — ALLEN PARK, Ml Our Christmas holiday letter was mailed to every member: the time of services and other activities were listed.
