csak a magukrahagyott gyermekekre, az öregek elsírt könynyeire, az éhezőkre és munkanélküliekre. Hányszor halljuk a TV-ben vagy olvassuk az újságban naponta, hogy ez vagy az cserbenhagyta a másik embert. De hány olyan cserbenhagyott áldozat, megtagadott rokon és barát, félrelökött ember hever életünk útjának peremén, akiről sehol sem olvasunk híradást. Hirdetnünk kell az emberszeretetet!

Az időszerű igehirdetésnek rá kell világítani az emberi kapzsiságra. Ma nagyon sok ember önző. Sokan el vannak foglalva az anyagi dolgokkal, a pénzgyűjtéssel, a nagyobb és jobb kényelem megteremtésével. Az igehirdetésben mutassunk rá a vagyonnal járó lelki veszélyekre, „Akik meg akarnak gazdagodni, kísértésbe, tűzbe, sok esztelen és káros kívánságba esnek” (1. Tim. 6:9.). „Minden rossznak gyökere a pénz szerelme” (1. Tim. 6:10.). Hirdetnünk kell Urunk tanítását, „Ne gyűjtsetek magatoknak kincseket a földön, ahol a rozsda és a moly megemészti és ahol a tolvajok kiássák és ellopják azt, hanem gyűjtsetek kincseket a mennybe, ahol sem a rozsda, sem a moly meg nem emészti és ahol a tolvajok nem ássák ki, sem el nem lopják. Mert ahol a kincsed van, ott lesz a szíved is”. (Mt.

6:19-21.) Ha ezt hangoztatjuk igehirdetésünkben, akkor talán az emberek megértik azt, hogy az örökélet ajándéka mellett Isten megadja a mi mindennapi kenyerünket is.

Végül az időszerű igehirdetésnek rá kell mutatni az alkoholizmus veszélyére. Világosan fel kell mutatni a bibliai igazságot, „Avagy nem tudjátok-e, hogy a ti testetek a bennetek lakozó Szentlélek temploma, amelyet Istentől nyertetek; és nem a magatokéi vagytok?” (1. Kor. 6:19.) „Kérlek azért titeket, atyámfiai, az Isten irgalmára, hogy szánjátok oda testeteket élő, szent és Istennek kedves áldozatul. Ez legyen a ti okos istentiszteletek” (Róm. 12:1.). Az emberek figyelmét Jézusra kell fordítani, akinek van hatalma arra, hogy bármilyen megkötözöttségből feoldjon minket.

Csak részben tudtam elmondani az időszerű igehirdetés szolgálatát. A Szentírást prédikálva kérjük Istent, hogy a mi igehirdetésünkön keresztül az Ő üzenete eljusson az emberek szívéhez. Könyörögjünk az Ő Lelkének a segítségéért, hogy a mi időszerű igehirdetésünkben több legyen a meggyőző hit, remény és szeretet!

THE 26th ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE CHURCH WOMEN UNITED

The 26th Annual Conference of Church Women United

— Eastern Division was held in New Brunswick, NJ on May 5, 1985. The theme for the Opening Devotional Service and Conference was “Train up a Child in the way he should go, and he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6.) Following the Opening Devotions, Mrs. Elsie Bodo, President welcomed everyone present and introduced the Guest Speaker, Rev. Dr. David Muyskens, a graduate of Princeton Seminary, and pastor of the First Reformed Church, New Brunswick. Dr. Muyskens spoke on the topic: “Mothers and Grandmothers — Their Role in Nurturing Religious Beliefs.”

Eva Petroczi, a Hungarian poet, commented on her Hungarian heritage and read a poem from one of her published books of poetry concerning the loss of an unborn child.

The Business Meeting was called to order by President, Elsie Bodo. Other officers for 1984-85 are as follows: Vice- President — Georgina Harkel, Roebling; English Secretary

The following churches were represented: Carteret (13); Linden (5); New Brunswick (26); Passaic (6); Perth Amboy (23); Poughkeepsie (4); Roebling (9); Staten Island (4) ; Trenton (12). There were also seven members of the clergy and nine guests present.

Dean Torok gave an update on the Hungarian Reformed Churches Uniting (there are 26 Hungarian Reformed Churches in America, 40 United Church of Christ/Calvin Synod Churches, 2 Reformed Churches, and 5 Presbyterian Churches involved in this union) and took a poll to deter-New officers of the Church IF omen United.

The customary Secretary’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report from the previous conference were given and approved as corrected.
