MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 5. oldal BE YE THANKFUL Today, we live in a world when everyone seems to be demanding something. People demand more freedom, student demand more voice in the schools, prisoners demand better food and living conditions. Yes, we have all kinds of demands in our modern society. What many, however, forget is Thanksgiving. Often people are inclined to take everything for granted, and they forget to give thanks to Almighty God for all their blessings. The Bible reminds us to give thanks to the Lord. First and foremost, thankfulness should be in our heart and soul and it should be the most important role in the life of every Christian. If we view the life of the Apostle Paul, we find that wherever he went, he always remembered to give thanks to God, and praise the name of our Saviour. The Bible calls our attention to the fact: Be ye always thankful. Hear therefore the strong admonition of the Bible “Be Ye Thankful.” Do we feel this thankful spirit in our hearts every day? Do we feel, that our nation is a thankful nation? Do we feel, that the people of the world heed this warning of the Bible? Be Ye Thankful!? This should be the natural virtue of every Christian. We should remember to give thanks to God, for He is good and His mercy endureth for ever. Secondly, if you recognize, the Christian rule of thankfulness you must pay special attention to WHOM, we should render our thanks. It often happens that after the trials are over, we forget to give thanks to God. Often after a serious illness, when people come home from the hospital, o how easy it is to forget God, who made us well. When the battle is over, and the victory is won even the soldiers in their celebration forget to think of Him who spared their lives. When tragedy occurs, when people suffer, it is not easy to turn to God and give Him thanks; but regardless what happens whether you are victorious or suffer defeat, in health or in-sickness, remember always to give thanks to God. Just look around and see how many reasons you have, to bow down in gratitude before our Lord God Almighty. Why? you ask. Because as a child of God you owe it to you Heavenly Father. You cannot call yourself a child of God and be ungrateful. Children of God could never forget their Heavenly Father: Be Ye Thankful, the Bible tells us. After God, to whom do we owe our gratitude To our parents, and loved ones, whom God gave us. Children of our Lord, ought to give thanks to their parents, for all the wonderful things, they grant to them every day. Young or old, try to remember, how much your parents worked and sacrificed for you. How many days and nights they kept vigil by your bedside, when you were sick, to show that they really and truly loved you. Even the punishment they measured out to you were meant for your benefit, and you ought to be thankful for them too. Those that do not show the spirit of thankfulness to their children, can be sure, that their children will not show it to them. Do we give thanks to God? Not only .when Thanksgiving comes around each year, but every day in our life. Hear the warning of the Holy Scripture: Be Ye Thankful! There is only one way for survival in our modern catastrophic world: by turning to God and give Him praise and thanks forever. As children of God let us all be thankful to the Lord for all His blessings. Let us be mindful that we live, move and have our being in Him. On this Thanksgiving Day and every day of our lives let us act as those who know, appreciate God’s dealing with us and Be Thankful Unto Him.
