16. oldal NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Our total church income during the year of 1980 was $87,560.06, our total expenses $84,085.69. The total income of our Lorantffy Care Center was $1,114,793.30. During the year we received $60,520.00 in donations for the upkeeping of our Care Center. The speaker of our March 15th celebration was Dr. Ferenc Somogyi professor. Our minister served in the United Church of Christ in Kalamazoo, Michigan and in the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Cleveland and Calgary, Canada. He was the main speaker of the March 15th celebrations in Kalamazoo and Calgary. Holiday schedule: Combined worship service in our church at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, Hun­garian worship service with Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. on Eastern Sunday, English worship service on Eastern Sunday at 11 a.m. with Holy Communion. Holy Communion service in Lorantffy Care Center at 10 a.m. on Eastern Monday. Holy Communion to shut in-s on Easter Tuesday all day. On Friday May 29th, the Board of the Gaspar Karoli Seminary will hold a very im­portant meeting in Akron. On Saturday, May 30th the American Hungarian Federation will hold its regular Board meeting in Akron. Our minister is the Chairman of the Board of the Federation. On May 31st Sunday we will dedi­cate the “Trianon statue” in the larger garden of our Lorantffy Care Center. The statue is the work of Csaba Kur sculptor and reminds the Hungarians in the United States and Canada the many million Hungarians who are under foreign occupation in other countries. Baptism—We baptized Miklós Art Kiss, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miklós Kiss. Godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Béla Sebestyén. Funerals—During the past months we buried Mrs. Elizabeth Csizmadia, 93; Mrs. Katalin Cikra, 95 and Mr. Alex Varga, 86 our faithful church members. May God comfort their loved ones and may their memories be blessed among us. ALLEN PARK, MICH. The annual congregational meeting elected Mr. Edmund Vig chief elder, Mr. Andrew Hővizi vice chief elder and reelected others to their former office. The newly elected elders are: Steve Boysnack, Francisco Imre, Rudolph Mathia, Raymond Mei: alternates John Bujdosó, Andrew Fodo, James Kish, Steve Láczay, John S. Pitel and Arthur Silye. Auditor: Frank Jacob and his alternate Victor Indre. Our church donated $2,000.00 for the Theological School to be established in Akron, Ohio. We urge the youth of our church to study to be future servants of the Lord. Our organizations all made generous dona­tions to the church during Easter: the Ladies Aid Society, The Dorcas Guild, The Golden Circle Club and Men’s Club. May God bless the leaders and members of our faithful or­ganizations. On Good Friday, the Allen Park Council of Churches sponsored the traditional three-hour service in the Presbyterian Church: our choir under the leadership of Ernest Kaplar, the pastor and many members participated in this city-wide ecumenical service. The Dorcas Guild sponsored a bus excursion to Washington, D.C. April 9-12. Mrs. Helen Hermann president, Mrs. Irene Széles trea­surer gave a helping hand to Mrs. Margaret Abraham, wife of the pastor. Everyone had an enjoyable time. The Hungarian folk-dance group of our church under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Szabó participated in the Hungarian In­dependence Day celebration, also at the Multi­cultural Center in Windsor, Canada. They re­ceived good media coverage. March 29th, when the pastor participated in the 25th anniversary service of the Very Rev. Gábor Csordás, Dean, New York City, and attended the Eastern Classis meeting in Perth Amboy, N.J. Laymen's Sunday was observed: Mr. Ed­mund Vig chief elder, Mr. Charles Boné, chief elder of the Western Classis brought the mes­sage of God to the large congregation. The Martha Circle will sponsor an original Hawaiian Luau on May 23rd, and the Golden Circle a Budapest Paprikás Sunday on May 31st. Plans are being formulated to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the organization of our church (1941-1981). BETHLEHEM, PA. The Eastern pastoral message was mailed to the church members. English communion worship service will be held on Good Friday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Sunday at 10:30 a.m. we will have English-Hungarian communion ser­vice. The Holy Elements were donated by Mrs. Julius Kadar, Mr. and Mrs. Gyula Aszli, the Kery Family in memory of their parents, and Mrs. Sophia Kandel. We will have a Mother's Day celebration on May the 10th, and Confirmation on May 31st. At the Hungarian Independence Day celeb­ration Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder greeted the guests, István Turoczi, Jr. recited the “Talpra Magyar” and played the piano, and Rev. Nagy made the speech of the day. At the Eastern Classis meeting in Perth Amboy Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder-member of the Judicial Commission, Mr. Steve Turoczi secretary of our church, Mr. Frank Athis controller, the Rev. Louis Nagy and his wife represented our church. Thanks to all of our guests, church members, cooks and servers who participated in our congregational dinner which was a suc­cessful event. Mr. Gyula Palumby retired principal of the Kilian high school in Miskolc Hungary, former seminary and high school class-mate of Rev. Nagy, visited the minister. — Miss Zsuzsa Nagy college student in Elmira, New York spent her spring vacation with Rev. and Mrs. Nagy. She is the daughter of the dean in Kecs­kemét, Hungary. With a saddened heart we report that on March 6th we buried Mr. Emery Kery who was 90 years old and was born in Tótvázsony, Veszprém county Hungary and on April first we buried Mr. Miklós Csikai 69 years old who was born in Tiszaladány, Szabolcs county Hungary. Our congratulation goes to Mrs. Ethel Kovary who, after a successful examination, received her American citizenship. CARTERET, NJ. Officers of the congregation elected at the annual meeting for a term of three years are the following: Leonard Sendelsky chief elder, Julius Lengyel and Louis Tomori vice chief elders, Michael Kovács, Jr. secretary, Geza Megyesi treasurer, Helen Sheridan financial secretary, Lester Sabo auditor. New names on the list of elders: Margaret De Stefano, Roy Jensen, Joseph Kara. Elders reelected: Mi­chael Breza, Alex George, Louis Hollo, Mi­chael Kovács, Jr., Julius Lengyel, Bert Pokol, Lester Sabo, Edward Sadowski. Stephen Dorko, Sr. was named honorary elder. Other elders also serving on the present church council: Géza Budai, Alice Kovács, William Lukach, Ben Matto, Clinton Miller, John Nemish. The Junior Women's Guild had a well organized, well attended and much enjoyed dinner dance on March 7 and a highly success­ful rummage sale and flea market on March 28/29. They are already busy in their prepara­tion for the Fall Bazaar. The Rev. Gabor Nitsch was our guest in the pulpit at both services on March 29. Baptism: András Péter, son of Rev. Gabor Nitsch and his wife the former Ilona Grof Tisza, in the Carteret church on March 28. Godparents: István Gróf Tisza and Miss Karen W. Stevens. Pastor Harsanyi admi­nistered the sacrament. Funeral: John Esik, born in Tiszabezdéd 59 years ago, on March 14. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptism: Brian Scott Peclet, the son of Andrew Peclet and his wife the former Sandra Gizzi was christened in our church on March 29th. Godparents are Frederick and Palma Hildebrand. Funerals: Four faithful members of our church were called home by our Creator. Mrs. Joan Thomas—We escorted her earthly re­mains to its last resting place in our cemetery on January 26th. Stephen Sabo, Mrs. Thomas’ brother was buried on February 14th. Inter­ment was in our cemetery. Joseph Szucs—He was laid to rest in our cemetery on February 16th. Stephen Genes—He was buried in our cemetery on March 30th. The Sunday School sold pizzas to sponsor a field trip, with great financial success and well, as gaining popular approval of the quality of the merchandise, and of the school members' loyal enthusiasm for the project. The Women’s Club held a poppy seed, nut, apricot and lekvár rolls sale before Easter, with equally great success. During the Easter Season the following services were held: Maundy Thursday—Lenten communion. Good Friday—noon till 3 in the afternoon union service was held in our sanctuary. The service was sponsored by the Duquesne Area Clergy. We held an evening
