MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 7 MAGYAR CHURCH THE CHOICE .. Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?” A seasoned politician such as Pilate should never have resorted to mob justice. He had no legal or moral right under Roman law to hold a man in whom he had found “no fault.” And he should have known that the aroused rabble would never be satisfied with a mere scourging, but soon would be shouting, “Crucify!” Barabbas was a thief, a murderer, and a violent rebel. He can be regarded as typifying all that is evil and sinful in human life. Jesus represented everything that was good and pure. Pilate was aware of this. Yet by his cowardly wavering, his half measures and his indolent questionings, he found himself slowly pushed toward a decision he did not wish to make. In a final effort to clear his own conscience and to be able to “wash his hands” of the whole distasteful business, he let the people decide between Jesus and Barabbas. With such an inflamed, mindless mob, the choice was bound to be Barabbas. Every generation is offered the selfsame choice. What will our answer be? Shall we follow the mocking throng, heady with unexpected power, as they ruthlessly place a crown of thorns upon His brow and lead Him away to the cross? Or shall we keep faith with the millions in whose hearts our Lord reigns supreme as the Light of all the ages? Seemingly, the choice is an easy one. But there is no broad highway on which we can ride in comfort to the foot of the cross. We must walk every step of the way with Him. MAGYAR EGYHÁZ WISHES ALL ITS READERS A BLESSED A1\D HAPPY EASTER! THE KING OF KINGS Lk. 24:46-49. The joy of the Easter Season can be described many ways. This year I want you to look at the Season from Palm Sunday through the Easter Holidays as the Royal Season. Palm Sunday is the Holiday of the King for a Day. Good Friday is the Day of the Deposed King, and Easter Sunday is the Day of the Victorious King, the King forever! We Christians confess that this King is our king, the King of Kings, the Saviour of the world, and Easter is the Day of His victory over death, it is the Day of His resurrection. Easter Sunday is the day when we are especially reminded of the fact that our King is a Living King, the King of our lives. He is not an honorary king, a week-end ruler, but a real king! When kings issue proclamations, they demand loyalty. Our King invites us with love to become and be a part of His Kingdom, the Kingdom Regained, forever! He also invites us to be a living part of His body, the church. Have a Happy Easter! Rev. Louis Illés ☆ ☆ AN EASTER PRAYER God’s blessing rest upon you This happy Easter Day, God make His joy to shine As sunlight on your way; God fill your heart with song So glad it will not cease; God bless you every day With love and joy and peace. —Author Unknown
