MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 9 MAGYAR CHURCH DID YOU TRY THIS? This short article is written for those who are struggling with great problems, who are confused, who know what heartache, sorrow, failures and sufferings are, and who are willing to listen. I think most of us belong to this group, therefore, this article might mean something for us. I strongly believe that God loves us and wants us to have a normal, healthy, balanced and full life. But that kind of life is possible for us only if we ard willing to learn and follow His guidance. On the basis of the Bible I see the solution of all our human problems in our daily private praying to God. 1. Talk to God every day in your private prayer. Talk to Him as you talk to another person. Is this possible? Try it just once and you will find out. What will you gain from this kind of private prayer? You will feel that God is a real Person to whom you can talk. 2. Talking to God in your private prayer, you feel and know what kind of a person you really are. When you talk to God no one should remind you that you are not perfect. You feel it. In your private prayer you forget to blame anybody or anything, you just see yourself as you are with all your sins, shortcomings, pride, etc. 3. Talking to God in your private prayer, you don’t speculate on what is right and what is wrong. You feel it. And also you feel what you should do concerning God and your fellowmen. And you have a certain guilty feeling if you don’t do what you know you should do. 4. Talking to God in your private prayer, it is clear like the sun on the sky that you should worship God in the church every Sunday morning. I am convinced that if a person would talk to God in his private prayer Saturday evening and ask: “Lord, should I go to church tomorrow morning to worship You?”, it would be just plain impossible for that person not to come to church. (Therefore, I am afraid very few people asks this question from God Saturday evening.) 5. Talking to God in our private prayer, it is absolutely impossible to ridicule, to abuse or to hurt our fellowmen. When I say in my prayer, my Father, it strikes my mind that God is also the Father of all my fellowmen. And this feeling urges me to love all men, to help them to overcome their faults and ask God to forgive them and help them ... as I ask Him to forgive me and help me in my struggle against my own sins and faults. 6. Talking to God in your private prayer, you feel like a child whom his parents hold in their arms. You feel secure. You are not alone, God is with you. This short article is based upon this part of the Bible: Jesus said: “When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matt. 6. Maybe you are very angry, depressed, sorrowful, complaining and unhappy right now.... if you just could bow your head and say: “My Father. .. Try it today. Stephen Kovács YES—WE DO REMEMBER OR DO WE? This message is of concern to all those who possess our Hungarian heritage. Last year in Ligonier, the American Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association proposed that the Annual Conference in 1976 be designated to honor the 300th anniversary of Hungarian Galley Slaves. A tribute to those Hungarian ministers and teachers, who suffered and were tortured and sold as galley slaves rather than to denounce their faith and beliefs. To plan for this coming event, a committee was formed. We are trying to secure committee members
