This year’s Annual Banquet drew over three hundred people, members and friends, to Bethlen Hall. The main feature of the brief program was the burning of the church’s mortgage-paper. A $30,000 loan was taken out in 1967 to cover the cost of a major church building renovation. Instead of 15 years the loan was paid in 6 and a half years, thanks to the generous donations of the church members but mostly to the gifts of the Lorantfy Society. The ladies gave more than half of the payments. They were honored guests of the evening. Chief Elder Leonard Sendelsky was toastmaster introducing, among others, the politicians running for local offices. Vice Chief Elder Béla Kántor, in a brief address, listed the reasons and goals of the annual banquet: to promote good fellowship among church members and neighbors, to commemorate the events of 1956 in Hungary, and to give thanks to God for His abiding providence.
