MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 On January 10, members of the Wo­men’s Guild served a Paprikas Chicken dinner to the “Golden-Agers” at the Salvation Army headquarters. Rev. Gon­­docz conducted the devotional service. A Secret-Pal Party will be held by the Ladies on February 10. The ladies will surprise each other with gifts. To celebrate last year’s successes, the Ladies will go to the Holiday House to enjoy a dinner together and to see John Davidson, a well-known T.V. person­ality. The Sunday School had its Christmas Party on Dec. 23. The program was ar­ranged by the teachers. Mrs. Louis Jardanhazy and Billy Orris were fea­tured soloists. Mr. John Varga, the chief-elder presented Christmas gift to the minister, the organist and the teach­ers. Mrs. Eva Suchant on behalf of the Young Adult Fellowship presented a Show and Tell projector for use in the Sunday School. On Christmas Eve we had a Candle- Light service, which was well attended and received by the congregation. The members of the Confirmation Classes recited Bible verses and lit the candles and Mrs. Louis Jardanhazy and Billy Orris were once more the soloists. The Lord’s Supper served on Decem­ber 20 and again on Christmas Day. To the shut-ins the Lord’s Supper was taken to their homes on Dec. 20, 21 and 22. The minister’s family held an Open House on Dec. 16 for the members and friends of the congregation. Many came and presented the family with thought­ful gifts. Elders and young people went carol­ing on Dec. 23 in three groups. One of the unexpected results of caroling was the desire to learn Hungarian. So now every Wednesday evening at 6:30 class for both adults and children is held. Mrs. Judith Bittner became a new member by transfer from the Presby­terian Church. Burials: On December 24, Mrs. Jo­seph Pavuk who died unexpectedly at her home. She was the mother of Mrs. Irene Kovács, the wife of Rev. Stephen Kovács of Trenton. On January 12, Mr. Joseph Biro who was bom in Versailles Boro (McKeesport) in 1918. “Blessed are those who die in the Lord.” (Rev. 14:13). PERTH AMBOY, N. J. On Sunday, February 3rd, during the first service the newly elected officers and elders of the church will take their official oath, and participate in a cor­porate holy communion. The Christian Youth Fellowship will sponsor a “fel­lowship coffee hour” afterwards. The results of the election and a brief report of the congregational meet­ing will be given in the next issue. The Women’s Guild elected and in­stalled the fellowing officers: Mrs. Elsie Löki president, Mrs. Margaret Silágyi vice president, Mrs. Margaret Seemann secretary, Mrs. Lorraine Blaho treas­urer, Mrs. Lorraine Magyar chaplain, Mrs. Margaret Abraham adviser. Statistics for 1973: baptisms 15 child­ren; confirmed 13 teenagers; marriages 9; deaths 16. Two children were baptized on De­cember 30th: Jonn Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Orosz Jr.; and István, son of Mr. and Mrs. István Szalánczi. May God bless the children and their loved ones. The Christmas Eve English service was the best attended of all the holiday services. On Christmas Day the Rev. Dr. Andrew Sebben was the guest min­ister who preached at the English ser­vice and assisted our pastor at the Lord’s Table. Dr. Sebben is the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Trenton. Altogether 300 took the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The several performances of the choir under the leadership of Mrs. Grace Baytel greatly contributed to the beauty of the holiday services. The Christmas tree in the church was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mat­thias. Poinsettias were given by the Women’s Guild, the Kerekes family in memory of Andrew Kerekes and by Mrs. Joyce Shachs. The Christmas program of the Sun­day School children was held during the Christmas Eve English service. After the service there was a party for the children and their parents in the school. The impressive program was arranged by Mrs. Geza Kuronya, superintendent, and the faithful Sunday School teachers. The new officers of the Men’s Club for 1974: President John S. Toth, 1st Vice-President Nicholas Katona, Jr., 2nd Vice-President Joseph Jenei, Treasurer J ulius Borcsik, Secretary Geza Kuronya, Sgt. of Arms Frank Thomas. The Young Married Couples Club’s men members entirely remodeled the Men’s Club Room with paneling, new lights and with a new ceiling. They not only made the room very attractive but they saved several hundred dollars by donating their work. Mr. Charles Balogh, Jr., our organist for several years, left our city to accept an important position in Arizona. Our whole congregation is very grateful to Mr. Balogh for his excellent and faith­ful service as our organist. The Lorantffy Zsuzsanna Society and the Women’s Guild each donated $500 to our church for Christmas. We are all most appreciative of the exemplary work given to the church by these two wo­men’s groups. Marriages: Mr. Randolph Voigt and Miss Nancy L. Molnár were married in our church on January 12th. Also, Mr. Raymond Le Doux and Elizabeth Czar­­necki were married the same day. Funerals. November 29: Zoltán Pay­­erli, Dec. 1: Arthur Schauer, Dec. 5: Mrs. Helen Kososky, Dec. 7: Mrs. Ste­phen Chetneky, Dec. 10: Joseph Raho, Dec. 12: Andrew Szakacs, Dec. 22: Stephen Racz and Mrs. Alexander Sziky, Jan. 2: John Tudja, Jan. 4: Mrs. Stephen Oramus, Jan. 7: Mrs. Julius Mate. Also, the mother of Mrs. Stephen Kovács, our pastor’s wife, Mrs. Joseph Pavuk, died on December 21st. She was buried in McKeesport, Pa. on Decem­ber 24th. “Will Tomorrow Ever Come?”, a novel written by Mrs. Elizabeth Szath­­mary, our church member, is available at our church for $3.75 a copy.
