10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ If you would like to be a follower of Christ you should practice self denial, you should be able to deny things from yourself during this Lenten season. Jesus Christ puts it this way: “if any man will come after me, let him take up his cross daily— So it comes as no surprise to many that the Christian way of life is not only a self-denial in Lent, but daily, today, tomorrow and for ever. Daily we must take up our responsibilities, discharge our duties and perform the chores, which we often do not like. III. Then comes the encouragement from Christ: “if you wish to be a disciple of Jesus, and are willing to deny yourself, and put on your cross, then and only THEN — our Lord says — FOLLOW ME!” First be sure that you heard the call of your Lord right. He wants you to follow him. Do not look around to see whether your friends or neighbors will follow him. NO! He means YOU! Then, have strength to endure the long journey: when others get tired, still more are disillusioned, and decide to step aside or change their mind and would like to go back into their own selfish ways, YOU keep on going, follow him! The road may be thorny and there might be difficulties and obstacles along the way but you must go on . .. for the Lord of life said: “follow me!” Oh, what a blessed experience it will be to know, that all your self denial, all the bearing of your heavy cross was not in vain, for you shall see God, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ in His Heavenly Kingdom for ever. Dezső Abraham, Bishop One Great Hour of Sharing: March 25th In our churches, Sunday, March 25th has been designated as “One Great Hour of Sharing” when our members are asked to bring their sacrificial gifts. There were earthquakes, tornados, disasters, many thousands suffered and help is needed immediately: food for the hungry, medicine for the sick, shelter to those who lost everything. Special offering envelopes have been sent out to our churches, these will be distributed among our church members locally; then the aid gathered together should be sent to our: MISSION FUND c/o Mrs. Albert St. Miklóssy, Treas. After hundreds of years, a model preacher has been found to suit everyone. He preaches exactly 20 minutes and then sits down. He condemns sin, but never hurts anyone’s feelings. He works from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in every type of work, from preaching to custodial service. He makes $60 a week, wears good clothes, buys good books regularly, has a nice family, drives a good car, and gives $30 a week to the church. He also stands ready to contribute to every good work that comes along. He is 26 years old and has been preaching for 30 years. He is tall and short, thin and heavyset, handsome. He has one brown eye and one blue, hair parted in the middle, left side dark and straight, the right brown and wavy. He has a burning desire to work with teenagers, and spends all his time with older folks. He smiles all the time with a straight face because he has a sense of humor that keeps him seriously dedicated to his work. He makes 15 calls a day on church members, spends all his time evangelizing the unchurched, and is never out of his office.
