MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 “CHURCH PEWS” AVAILABLE! For details call: Hungarian Reformed Church 331 Kirkland Place Perth Amboy, N. J. Tel.: 201/442-7799 ROEBLING, N. J. On the last Sunday in June we held our long-awaited Annual Summer Picnic which was not as successful this year as it used to be. Many of our members did not come, and the church members decided that if we will have another picnic next year it will be open for the public. On July 14 Mrs. Susan Török, our Pastor’s wife left for a visitation to Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria and West Germany. This will be her first meeting with her in-laws. Rev. Török is unable to return yet to his native state. During the month of August, we also had two trips, organized by our church. The first one, sponsored by the Sunday School for its children to Clementon Park. This trip was always a success, but this time we had many empty seats on the bus. Our second trip was to Lancaster, Pa., Pennsylvania Dutch Country sponsored by the Lorántffy Zsuzsánna Nőegylet on July 21. In spite of the cancellations the bus was full. Thanksgiving for new bread was celebrated with Holy Communion at our worship service on August 12. The participation in thet Holy Communion was satisfactory, considering that a large percentage of our members are on their vacation or at the seashore all summer long. In September, we will reopen the doors of our Sunday School. Last year we had 31 children and we hope that this number will grow this year. During the warm summer months, our church services were held an hour earlier. Starting in September, our regular hours will be in effect: Sunday School at 9:00, English Service at 10:00 and Hungarian service at 11:00 o’clock. On August 1 we buried Mrs. Eliza-FAMOUS HUNGARIAN RECIPES 17th Edition now available at $1.25 plus 25c postage by placing your orders to: THE WOMEN’S GUILD 200 Norman Avenue Roebling, N. For our confirmed youth our pastor is publishing a News Letter which bears the title “My Church”. It is edited monthly. Our annual picnic was held on June 24th. The clear proceeds were $500.00. YOUTH NEWS Bethlen Youth Federation The Executive Board meeting of the Bethlen Youth Federation was held in Akron, Ohio on July 28 and 29. Representatives from Akron, Detroit, Duquesne, New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Roebling, and Youngstown were present. The making of a BYF flag was discussed. Because of the costs involved in having the flag manufactured, it was decided that we will make our own flag. Our “Hungarian Betsy Ross’s” from New Jersey will start to work on it. Plans were made to send representatives to the Calvin Synod conference the week of August 13. They in turn will send representatives to our camp. After observing each others camps we will discuss the possibility of holding a joint conference next year. The highlight of the meeting was a trip to see camp Y-Noah the place of this year’s conference. The camp has something for everyone, and we’re sure everyone will like it. The people attending the meeting were given the choice for Saturday evening recreation to go bowling or see the movie Jesus Christ Superstar. The fact that everyone chose the movie says a lot for our Executive Board. Reactions to the movie were varied and it gave all of us something to think about. Last, but not least I’d like to say “thank you” to Akron for the great food and wonderful time we all had. See you at the conference.
