Our Christmas services were well attended. Many thanks to the members of the choir, to Mrs. Jane Nagy, our choir director, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Csizma for their musical participation in our worship services. The children of our church received Christmas gifts from the congregation. The Holy Elements for the Lord’s Supper were donated by the Chief Elder, Edward Erdie. We visited our sick members and served them the Lord’s Supper. Edward Erdie, Mrs. Sándor Nemes and Mrs. Bela Pohoczky accompanied the pastor. We urge all members to attend church regularly, and wish them the Blessings of God for the New Year. CARTERET, N. J. In view of the nationwide tendency of decreasing church attendance and giving all our Christmas holiday services were very encouraging except one: there were slightly less in the communion fellowship than a year ago. On both services of December 26th our guest preacher was the Rev. Dr. Károly Tóth from the Office of the General Synod from Budapest, Hungary. His message on Amos 8:11 was the gospel of Christian hope. The annual vital statistics of the Carteret church show 6 infant baptisms, 11 confirmations, 6 weddings and 13 funerals. The preliminary financial statement reports $35,700 receipts, $34,450 expenses; total carryover for 1972 including last year's balance is $18,900. Encouraging is that all congregational direct giving (membership dues, collections, “to the Glory of God” and communion donations) rose by more than 15%. Funeral: Joseph Danes, 75 years old, past elder and a member of our congregation for over 50 years, on January 8. DUQUESNE, PA. The last Sunday in January is the time for our Congregational Meeting. We will publish the list of newly elected officers in the next issue. Our congregation is participating in drawing up the plans for a closer cooperation between Hungarian Reformed churches of the Pittsburgh area. A plan for youth meetings at certain intervals, laymen’s conferences and even a Youth Radio Service in English, and the youth’s participation in our Hungarian Reformed Radio Program is slated. The youth of our area, as everywhere, proves it again, that given the opportunity, they are willing and able to share in our efforts to narrow the denominational and generation gap. McKeesport, pa. The Christmas Worship Services were well attended. Most of our members lived with the Lord’s Supper. Members were generous in their giving. Our Sunday School presented our congregation with a nice Christmas Program. Baptism: On December 12 Valerie Dawn Brindza, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brindza was baptised and received into the Church of Christ. Godparents are: Miss Debbie Orris and Rev. Barnabas Roczey. We will hold Worship Services during Lent every Thursday at 7 p.m. Holy Communion for Lent will be observed on Sunday, February 20. Schedule of services: English at 9:45 a.m. and Hungarian at 11 a.m. The “Laymen’s Conference” of Pittsburgh and Vicinity Protestant Ministerium will be held on Sunday, February 27 at 3 p.m. in our church. Rev. Paul Markovits will discuss “Stewardship.” Everyone is invited. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. The Christmas Eve and Holy Communion services were better attended this year than the previous ones. Church members who participated in the Holy Communion during the English service numbered 279 — Hungarian service 112. On the second day of Christmas 39 participated in Holy Communion — sick and shutin totaled 28 and the overall total for the holidays was 449. Two large bronze outdoor light fixtures were given to the church in memory of Mr. Andrew Racz Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. John Gyurik by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Racz, Jr. Thanks and appreciation to those who remember their loved ones. The congregational meeting and election of elders and officers will be held on January 23. Statistics: 20 children were baptized, 22 confirmed, 17 marriages performed, 11 deaths. Nine new members joined our church and four contracted marriages in other churches. HUNGARIAN COOK BOOK 4th Printing Order from: THE WOMEN’S GUILD 331 Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, N. Our Church life continues wearily, and it can almost be said that it continues drudgingly in the old footprints toward an unsure future. Perhaps this is how many regard our small church, but these are the ones who were not moved by the Holiday celebration, by the One born in Bethlehem stable; these are the ones who were not moved to acceptance of God’s Gift of Love, Jesus, who makes this year a blessing for us, a year of great possibilities and a year of greater successes in life with which we may glorify God’s Holy name. In our midst the Holy season truly did inspire us to celebrate. Our small church was filled with joyful, praiseful and prayerful members with whom we journeyed to Bethlehem to meet with the Saviour. The Lord’s Supper was participated in by a record number of members. Our sick brethren received Holy Communion in their homes. Although church attendance decreased on the last day of the year, New Year’s day still proved satisfactory. Many questioning sighs were adored in prayer — why is it, that souls desire and search for God at Christmas, and why is the “Sunday to Sunday” meeting with God neglected.
