MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Our Christmas services were very well attended. First time in our church his­tory more than 200 people participated in the Holy Communion service. Our church income during Christmas was close to 2,000 dollars. Our total church income in 1970 was $30,054.81. Weddings-. On December 26th Doug­las Paul Garber and Sylvia Ann Bank were married in our church, witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. John P. Bank. On January 16th Árpád Szilvasi and Susan­na Juhasz were married, witnesses were István Szilvasi and László Breznai, on the same day Larry Dale Stanley and Cynthia Ann Ilg were married too, wit­nesses were Roger Lee Ilg and Donald Dwight Ilg. May God bless richly the newlyweds. Funerals: On December 29 we buried Mrs. Stephen Peters, 62, from our church, on January 2nd Mrs. Mary Kovács, 75, and on January 6th John Hutko, 76, who was a very faithful mem­ber of our church. May God comfort the bereaved families! BETHLEHEM, PA. Congregational Meeting in two parts: January 17 and January 24. On January 17 the Meeting heard the reports of the activities of the different committees and the financial reports, the report of the minister. In 1970: baptism: 1. Funerals: 7. New members: 9. Money transferred by the church­­organizations to the church: The La­dies: $750.00, Men’s Club: $425.00, Social Committee: $3,800.00, Special Committee: $15,500.00. CARTERET, N. J. During the Christmas season the Children’s Service in the church as well as all other services were very well attended, even communicants on Christ­mas Day numbered more than last year —in spite of the general downward trend in attendance at communion ser­vices. Offerings exceeded all previous years’ donations beyond the amount to make up for the inflation. Receipts for 1970 (unaudited) were $30,757. Vital statistics for 1970: 12 infant baptisms, 5 weddings, 7 burials, 4 con­firmations. Donations for Hungarian Flood Relief were $475 from the congregation, $375 from the Lorantfy Society (all net pro­ceeds from a meat-sale), totalling $850. Burials: Alexander Toth, 75 (born in Nyirmada) after a long illness. On Jan­uary 4 a deeply mourning congregation listened to the comforting words of the resurrection at the joint funeral of Gabriella Lengyel and Frank Vérségi, Jr. who had died together on New Year’s Day in a tragic accident. The memory of these two beautiful young people will be cherished by all. DETROIT-ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN Our Christmas Holiday Services were well attended and the season indeed was blessed by God. Our Christmas Offering was $12,105. The guest minister (le­gátus) was Rev. Peter Szabó who was graciously received by the congregation. We thank him for his services. We are grateful to God for the birth of Jesus and all the blessings of Christmas. Our Annual Pork Dinner and Dance will be held on January 30th. We cor­dially invite our church members, fami­lies and friends to this social event. The Golden Circle Club will hold their Valentine Card Party on February 9 at 7 p.m. We welcome your atten­dance. The Sr. Youth Fellowship donated $700 as a Christmas donation and also repaid the $360 loaned to them by the church for their Conference expenses. Thank you young people. Two hundred members received the Holy Elements of the Lord’s Supper during the Christmas Season. The Organ Committee and the By- Laws Committee reported to the annual congregational meeting, January 31; new officers were also elected. On February 14 the Jr. Youth Fel­lowship sponsored a Valentine Day family spaghetti dinner. McKeesport, pa. The Christmas Worship Services were not as well attended as we expected. Many of our members will have to learn that church attendance is a moral obli­gation and a great privilege. Our Christ­mas Program was a success. During the Christmas season our church was presented with gifts by the Ladies’ Aid, Women’s Guild, Willig Funeral Home, Check Funeral Home and Julius J. Lenart Agency. We are thankful and grateful for their dona­tions. Our Sunday School visited our Or­phan Home and Old Age Home in Ligonier and presented the children and elderly people with their gifts. We en­joyed the hospitality of these homes. We presented the Pastor, the care­taker, the organist and the Sunday School teachers with gifts during Christ­mas. Our church appreciate the ser­vices and work of these people. The annual Congregational Meeting approved the building of our new church at our new lot. According to the architect the building will cost at least 375 thousand dollars. The plan includes the church, Fellowship Hall, Sunday School classes, parsonage and etc. We hope to have the ground-breaking in April and complete the building by 1972 when our church will celebrate its 50th anniversary. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. The newly elected elders and officers will take their official oath on Sunday, February 7th, 9:00 a.m. service. The church council will participate in a corporate holy communion at the same time. Statistics in 1970: baptisms 8 boys and 7 girls, total 15; confirmation 9 boys and 7 girls, total 16; marriages 12 couples; deaths 15 men and 4 women, total 19; new members 23; transferred one; moved away two; married con­trary to our laws, one. The sound system in our center was greatly improved by the Rev. Zoltán Király. The new years’ eve dinner dance was a great success; thanks and apprecia­tion to Mr. Andrew Rácz, Mr. John Marincsák, Mr. Miklós Magyar Jr., and members of the committee for their tire­less effort and many hours of hard work. The total profit was two thousand dollars. Our organizations made generous do­nations to the church at Christmas:
