14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO During the Christmas holidays our worship services were very well at­tended. On Christmas Day 175 par­ticipated in Holy Communion; 12 members of our church received Holy Communion in hospitals, old age homes and their own homes. Our total congregational receipts during the Christmas season was $1,771.75. We had a very successful candlelight service with the participation of our Sunday School children and our Choir. We sincerely hope that the wonderful spirit of Christmas will stay with us during the new year. Baptisms: On December 21, during the English worship service, we bap­tized the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Druga who has received the name of David Joseph; godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Marhevsky. — On December 28, during the Hungarian worship service, we baptized the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Botond Ba­­tizy, who has received the name of Tony Diane; godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Levente Batizy. Funeral: Mrs. Matthew Farkas, Sr., 73, from our church, on December 22. Mrs. Matthew Farkas was the treasurer of our Hungarian Ladies Club. New Members: Dr. Gary S. Kyker and his wife Cheryl joined our church. May God bless richly our new mem­bers. BETHLEHEM, PA. The Congregational Meeting was held in two parts. On December 14th the congregation elected the new of­ficers. The newly elected officers: John Waros Sr., president; John Si­mon, vice-president; Imre Kovary, secretary; László Fekete, treasurer; John Bartek, controller. On January 25th the reports from the year 1969 were presented to the congregation. Enikő, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Gondocz broke her leg while ice­­skating. CARTERET, N. J. During the Christmas season the Children’s Service in the church and the Christmas Eve services were par­ticularly well attended — beyond ex­pectation. Christmas Day communion services, however, showed a down­ward trend, the number of communi­cants did not reach 200. After Christ­mas Day, the bad weather greatly in­fluenced church attendance. On the other hand, there can be no com­plaints in regards to finances: holi­day offerings as well as annual re­ceipts were at an all time high. Vital statistics for 1969: 11 infant baptisms, 6 weddings, 11 burials, 6 confirmations. New officers of the Junior Women’s Guild: Mrs. Helen Hamer president, Mrs. Annemarie Varga vice-president, Mrs. Judy Sendelsky and Mrs. Margie Kara secretaries, Mrs. Violet Nemish treasurer. The new officers were sworn in by the Pastor and installed by Mrs. Margaret Harsanyi. After many years in office, the of­ficers of the Lorantfy Society re­signed. They all have been made honorary officers—Mrs. Balázs Biri, Sr., Mrs. Stephen Katko, Mrs. Alex­ander Toth and Mrs. Stephen Toth. The new slate of officers include Mrs. Frank Csizmadia, Sr. president, Mrs. Menhard Deak vice-president, Mrs. Béla Kántor secretary and Mrs. Stephen Dorko treasurer. The Junior Women’s Guild enter­tained all who worked on the reno­vation of Bethlen Hall (and their wives) at a Christmas Party. Baptisms: December 14—Carl Eu­gene, son of Leo George and Shirley Wells (godparents Robert Pollman and Patricia Garcia), Ronald Michael, son of Edward Kutcher and Rose Marie Truck (godparents Donald and Mary Rodkey); January 4—Joseph Frank, son of Elder Joseph Timari and Lillian Vérségi (godparents Elder and Mrs. Alexander Peter). Wedding: Dennis Dee Winter and Linda Dorothy Fabian on December 20. Witnesses: Louis Fabian, Jr. and Cathy Petrakis. Burials: December 24—Mrs. Bill Harsa (Emma Debrei), December 27 —Mrs. Charles Torkos (Rose Palfi). D ETROIT-ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN Our Christmas celebrations were abundantly blest by God. Worship­pers attended our services in large numbers and our holiday offering was $13,000. The guest preacher for our holiday services were Seminarian Bela Pohóczky, who was received most warmly by our congregation. We thank him for his services. We thank our members for being fervent in their worship and above all we ithank God for His many blessings. On January 11th the Golden Circle Club held a very successful Pancake Breakfast. A Pork Dinner and Dance was held on January 24th in honor of the of­ficers of the church, also the officers of all our church organizations. This was well attended not only by mem­bers of our congregation but also by the community at large. Our Annual Congregational meet­ing will be held on February 8th. The first Sunday of Lent will be February 15, and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be observed in our church. With the beginning of the New Year our congregation launched a Debt Reduction Campaign, which will run for the next five years. Our goal is to have a mortgage burning cere­mony at the end of this campaign. To achieve our aim we need the whole­hearted support of our members and above all we need the help and bless­ing of God. We pray for this blessing. Charles Kiss, the president of our Congregation has moved to Florida and in his place Michael Biro was elected as president. We shall cherish forever the works and accomplish­ments of Mr. Kiss and we ask God’s abundant blessing on his life, he shall never be forgotten by a grateful con­gregation. We also ask God to be with our new president and aid him in all his endeavors. DUQUESNE, PA. Christmas Communion was observ­ed on Friday, December 19th, and on Christmas Day, December 25th. 225 church members participated, includ­ing 8 shut-ins. Our Annual Congregational Meet­ing and Fellowship Dinner was held on January 25th. New officers were elected—a list of names will be pub­lished in the next issue. On February 15th we will observe Lenten Communion. Following the services a family style spaghetti din­ner will be served, sponsored by the Sunday School. During Lent vesper services will be held on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. McKeesport, pa. At Christmas time 300 persons took communion, 33 members received the Hioiy elements in their homes and in the hospital. In the Christmas Season Stephen Torok was our student preacher. He was well liked by the congregation. We baptized Randall George, the son of George Jacob and Joyce Ann Byerly. Godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nick Piergrossi. Funerals: Mrs. John Lovass nee Esther Csomos, born at Vajdácska, Zemplén county 79 years ago. Mrs. Stephen Pásztor, nee Margaret Olah, 61 years odd, bom at Miglecnemeti, Abauj county. The congregation elected the Rev­erend Barnabas Roczey from Roeb­­ling. He will begin his pastorate March 1st. Rev. Louis Nagy became the Superintendent of Bethlen Home. Mr. and Mrs. John Toth, the par­ents of Zoltán Toth and Mrs. Mary Sotak arrived from Bodzasujlak, Zemplen County, to visit their child-
