6 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ MAGYAR CHURCH Bishop Dezső Ábrahám: “I TRUST IN THEE, 0 LORD, THOU ART MY GOD” Psalm 31:15 Today people live in a world, when the word “trust’’ has lost its meaning. It seems as if no one will trust the other person. In the family, parents do not trust their own children, in schools and universities, t( achers and pupils are often in opposing camps mistrusting one another. Churches are carrying on enmity between one another, not to mention more emphatically the mistrust that reigns between nations. The root of evil and the origin of all troubles often goes back to the fact that we do not have trust in God, and alienated our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Therefore, we do very well if we pay attention to the Psalmist, as he said: “But I trust in Thee, 0 Lord, Thou art my God!” Indeed, when we put our faith in our Creator, all our problems will be solved. Incidentally, if you think that our age is had, let me remind you, what it was like when Micali lived, who said: “The godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men; they all lie in wait for blood, and each hunts his brother with a net... Put no trust in a neighbor, have no confidence in a friend; guard the doors of your mouth, — for the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.” If conditions were such long ago, man did not change very much throughout the centuries: the situation is similar in our time. First of all we must realize that faith and trust in God is the most essential requirement of all believers. This is why you can find this reminder many times in the Book of Psalms: “Trust in the Lord.” “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him!” If you examine the sins of the people of God in the Old Testament, you will find that it is turning away from our Heavenly Father, which is the most serious offense. People do not trust in God, and have no faith in their Lord! In the New Testament, too, the reminder comes to us often: "Trust in the Lord!” Have faith” — and your sins will he forgiven. Oh, how many times our Master encouraged people who approached Him, “Believe!” — for if you have faith in God, all things will he possible for you. This faith or trust in God must he complete and personal. You have to put your life and all into the holy hands of our Lord. The second automatically follows from the first requirement that God will put everybody’s faith and trust to a test. The Psalmist told us how many trials lie had to go through. People sought to harm him, they even wished to destroy him and, in his distress, he cried out that regardless what godless people would do, “I will trust in God.” Indeed, this is the right attitude we all should take. Your faith will be put to a test sooner or later and the question is: will you remain loyal to God? Will you trust our Lord Jesus Christ — even in trials and tribulation? Summer time is here, with all the temptations to go out of the cities, to enjoy yourself and gain strength during your vacation. Happy are the ones who do not forget God and His laws; who do not lose their trust in the Lord hut worship him forever. Sickness and death may visit your family, or other trials will put your faith to a test. Be always ready to answer the temptor: “I trust in the Lord, for He is my God — forever.” The purpose behind every trial is to strengthen our trust, and increase our faith in God. A young person gradually grows into his responsibilities. You are not able to bear the pains and sorrows that actually wait for you later on in life. So, the trials prepare your heart that gradually you can endure all that will be measured out for your fate. The soldiers’ courage is really put to a test in battles. No one likes pain, suffering, or trials, yet they all work for our salvation. Do not lose your trust and faith in God, rather say with the Bible: “I trust in Thee, 0 Lord, Thou art my God.” If your friends see that you trust, and that God is the foundation of your life and all, He is your Rock and Refuge and Defender, then through your bumble words and life they will praise His name. Let the testimony of your heart and soul he the one of the Psalmist, who said that no matter what other people would do: “I trust in Thee, O Lord, Thou art my God!”
