14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Mrs. Edward F. Dandar. Funeral: Mrs. Julia Hussack on April 4th. 275 members came to communion at Easter. 9 shut-ins received the holy elements in their homes. The united Duquesne-McKeesport fellowship held a dinner and bake sale on April 9th, after the 11 o’clock service, with great success. May 7th was Confirmation Day for the following: Debra Cutson, John Darnay III., Andrew Peclet, Janice Sabo and Frank Toth. They will receive communion with their parents, on Pentecost Sunday. June 11th, Sunday is the date for our Sunday School picnic, following the 11 o’clock worship service. NILES (The South Side United Presbyterian Church) Rev. and Mrs. Nicholas S. Sewell spent two weeks in Miami Beach recently. The Rev. Julius Kish, retired minister supplied the pulpit on two Sundays. Elder Emery Patterson, our Sunday School Superintendent and his wife Velma received their third daughter Lisa Marie on March 30th. “God & Country” special Boy Scout award was presented to Bruce Nagy, son of Atty. and Mrs. Ernest C. Nagy, the Lay-president of our congregation, and to Steve Shimp, son of Elder Andros and Mrs. Shimp by the Pastor on April 16 during the worship service. A reception in the Fellowship Hall followed the ceremony. Dr. Sewell attended the meeting of the Board of Directors of Bethlen Home at Ligonier, Pa. on April 19. Our traditional Spring Public Church Dinner, to give an opportunity to all the local political candidates to present themselves to the general public, was held at our church on April 23. The Young Ladies prepared paprikás-chicken and cabbage rolls, a highly esteemed menu for all candidates. The Young Ladies Auxiliary conducted a tour to the new Fisher’s Body Chevrolet Plant of General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, on April 19. It took about 3 miles walk to follow one car completed on the assembly line. One new car rolls off every 58 seconds. Public confirmation examinations were held for Steve Shimp, Eric Ramsey, Sigmund Horvath and Magda Horvath on May 7th during a combined Hungarian-American service. They will receive first communion on Pentecost Sunday. The First Interfaith Banquet of this community was held on April 9, under the auspices of the Niles Ministerial Association. The main speaker was Father Bowman, the only Roman Catholic member on the staff of the National Council of Churches. A Roman Catholic and a Protestant outstanding young man of the community were given the annual Kiwanisaward under the chairmanship of Dr. Sewell. Mother’s Day dinner, traditionally, will be prepared and served by the Elders of the church, including the pastor who will be presiding over the—kitchen sink. PERTH AMBOY The 20th anniversary of the Women’s Guild was celebrated on April 18th. Congratulation to the members and leaders. May God bless them for their faithful services during the past two decades. On Ascension Day, May 4th, the following children took their confirmation examination: Violet Bak, Robert Bereczki, Donna De Marco, Sharon Fuzak, Bertha Harsanyi, Cynthia Kasay, Janice Kozma, Beverly Lunsford, John Latkovich, Lillian Latkovich, Brian Lipnick, Kenneth Matto, Brian Scales, Nancy Varga. The confirmation class members will take their official oath and participate in Holy Communion for the first time on Pentecost Sunday. Parents, godparents and loved ones are invited to attend. Sunday, May 21st, at 12 noon, Annual Mothers’ Day Banquet sponsored by the Women’s Guild. Vacation Bible School, according to the tentative plans will be held during the last week of June and first wek in July. Parents, please, keep this in mind. ROEBLING Our Easter Season was blessed abundantly both spiritually and materially. The Worship Services were well attended. At the Community Good Friday Woship Services which was held at the Florence Methodist Church many of our members were present. One of the sermons was delivered by our Pastor while the Children’s Choir sang “Crown of Thorns” under the direction of Mrs. Joseph Havas and Mrs. Bert Somogyi Jr. The confirmation of the class of 1966-67 was held on May 7. The members of the Confirmation Class will receive Holy Communion for the first time on Pentecost Sunday. Baptism: Trevor Allen and Trent Edward, twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Todash Jr. were baptized in our church. Godparents are: Mr. and Mrs. William Todash and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Longstreet. New Members: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arnold were received into our church fellowship. STATEN ISLAND The Church Hall will be painted and new drapes installed as a donation from Mr. and Mrs. John Rodvanski, presidents of the Church Council and of the Women’s Guild respectively. The commemoration of our Church’s 50th anniversary is planned for June 4th. Worship services will be at 4 p.m., banquet in the newly decorated hall at 6 p.m. A Souvenir Book as a memorial gift of the occasion is in the making. We ask for advertisements and memorial quotations. John Szucs died March 7th following his wife who died just 2 months earlier. He came from Zemplén megye and was 89 years old. YOUNGSTOWN The Lord’s blessing was with us during the Easter holidays. 240 persons took communion in the church; there were 5 sick-communicants. This number represents 82% of our communicant membership. On Palm Sunday and Easter the Ladies Aid, Yolanda Circle and Men’s Club beautified the church with palms and flowers. The Style Show and Card Party held by the Yolanda Circle on April 30th was a succes. Members of the Yolanda Circle and the Youth Group modeled the dresses. On May 7th, the Western Pennsylvania and Ohio Reformed and Presbyterian Churches Youth Conference was held in our church. Our congregation bought new English Hymnbooks. Originally we ordered only 150 of them, but members of the congregation subscribed for over 200. The rest of the Hymnbooks have been ordered. We would like to express our thanks for the wonderful support of the congregation. During the English service on Pentecost the following newly confirmed young people will take communion for the first time: Helen Adkins, Diane Buksar, Alan Bundza, Diana Combs, Carol Haggerty, William lagulli and Brenda Such.
