12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS BETHLEHEM Rev. Dezső Ábrahám, dean, held his visitation on March 5 at the meeting of the Board of Elders. A Congregational Meeting is scheduled for March 21 in connection with the plans to purchase the Hungarian Hall. Lenten Communion was held on March 14. CARTERET The number of participants at Lenten Communion was appreciably higher than last year. Attendance at the midweek Lenten services, however, is still low. Schedule of Holy Week and Easter services in English: Holy Thursday 7:30, Good Friday 7:30. Easter Sunday 8:30 A.M. with holy communion. The Saturday evening service will be bilingual. The Board of Elders is considering having communion at the Holy Thursday evening service. The Men’s Club is going to sponsor a Spaghetti Supper on April 29 for the benefit of the Youth Fellowship’s Conference Fund. DUQUESNE On the first Sunday of Lent 169 members lived with the Lord’s Supper; this number represents 52 per cent of our confirmed membership. During Lent midweek evening services are held on Wednesdays with good attendance, the highest was on Ash Wednesday: 84. The schedule of Holy Week and Easter services will be sent to all our members. During the Easter services Mr. Lester Helmeczi will be again our student assistant. Our next Fellowship Dinner is scheduled for May 2. PERTH AMBOY Our Lenten Banks this year were designated for the Mortgage Reduction Fund. Let us not only with words mention the expression “selfdenial”, but also show with our sacrificial help that we love our church. These Lenten Banks should be brought to the treasurer before Easter. The order of divine worship services during the Easter holiday season: Palm Sunday 9:00 A.M. English, 10:30 A. M. Hungarian service; Maundy Thursday 7:30 P.M. English; Good Friday 10:30 A.M. Hungarian, 7:30 P.M. English services; 12 noon united service. Saturday 7:30 P.M. preparatory service for Holy Communion in Hungarian. Easter Sunday 8:00 A.M. English, and 10:30 A.M. Hungarian service, both with Holy Communion. Easter Monday 10:30 A.M. holiday closing service in Hungarian with Holy Communion. Our Women’s Guild is making preparations for the Annual Women’s Conference, scheduled for Sunday, May 2nd in Perth Amboy. The women’s organizations of our sister churches will receive special invitations for the conference; please, plan to attend! Our Men’s Club will sponsor a bus trip to the World’s Fair on Saturday, May 8th. Contact the members for reservations. ROEBLING At Lenten Holy Communion 77 people lived with the elements of the Lord’s Supper. This average may seem satisfactory when we take into consideration that we have only 114 voting members, but if we think of the importance of the Lord’s Supper the attendance was only fair. The attendance at the preparatory services was very low. Our members should realize that these services are very important in preparing ourselves for Holy Communion. Officers of the Women’s Guild for 1965: Mrs. Julia Birkholz president, Mrs. Ruth Molnár 1st vice president, Mrs. Betty Genasky 2nd vice president. Mrs. Betty Soltész secretary (62 Third Ave., Roebling, N. J.) and Mrs. Rose Takach treasurer. Schedule of Holy Week and Easter Worship Services: Maundy Tbursdav at 7:00 p.m. in English; Good Fridav at 10:00 a.m. in Hungarian and at 7:00 p.m. in English; Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in Hungarian and at 6:45 p.m. in English; Easter Sundav, at 6:00 a.m. Sunrise Service in English and at 10:00 a.m. in Hungarian, with Holy Communion; Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Hungarian. STATEN ISLAND Youth Sunday was held with our young people participating in the worship service. The Youth Fellowship is embarking on a cake sale and chance book sale for a $50 U.S. Saving Bond to raise money for their Conference Fund. The Youth Fellowship’s Variety Show date has been set for May 15. The young people request the other groups to cooperate in this plan. The Women’s Guild plans an Inter- Guild Social to be held Thursday, April 22 for members of all Eastern Area churches.
