MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 EASTERN CLASSIS YOUTH NEWS SPRING EVENTS IN S. I. Spring is here, and a new pace of time has been set for everyone. The Young People’s Club of Staten Island is, by no means, an exception. Our activities are in full bloom at this point of the season. Staten Island’s Young People are proud to announce that on May 2, 1958 there will be another monthly Square Dance held in the church hall from 8:00 P.M. till 11:00 P.M. Donation is 50 cents. There are refreshments in store for everyone, along with a real good time! But the schedule of events does not end here. On Mother’s Day, May 11, 1958, directly after church services, a Mother’s Day Dinner will be given by the Young People’s Club. There’s a chance for all the children to show just how much they really appreciate their mothers. Therefore, we urge all the children to buy a Mother’s Day ticket for her, and give mother a treat on HER day. Happy Mother’s Day! Time at its new pace also brings a Spring Dance to Staten Island. On May 24, 1958, from 9:00 P.M. till 1:00 A.M. we will have the pleasure of sponsoring our Spring Dance, with the music of the famed Kara-Nemeth Orchestra. This is usually one of the biggest and best events of the year, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone join in on all the fun. Eileen Gelles JSewi 3rom Z)ke CARTERET, N. J. Large congregations filled our sanctuary on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. 1,120 people worshipped with us during Holy Week and Easter; 360 took part in the observance of the Lord’s Supper. The wine was donated by the Nemish-Ullersberger store. Total receipts during the holidays exceeded $1,800. The Rev. Zoltán Füle assisted the Pastor at the holiday services. Our congregation also participated in the Easter Sunday Sunrise Service sponsored by the Carteret Council of Christian Churches. On April 16 our Men’s Club paid a visit to the Men’s Club of our sister church at Perth Amboy. On April 20 we were host to the Annual Assembly of the Eastern Classis. Orphanage Sunday will be observed in our Church on April 27 with the Rev. Alexander Daróczy preaching at both services. There will be two services on Ascension Day (May 15): at 7 P.M. in Hungarian and at 8 P.M. in English. The Rev. Zoltán Füle will be guest preacher. From our Church Register: Baptisms — Brenda Lillian, daughter of Joseph Timari and Lillian Vérségi (God-parents: John Timari and Mrs. Janet Balka); Eric Francis, son of Francis Ullersberger and Elsie Nemish (God-parents: Anthony Ullersberger and Mrs. Marian K. Kovács). Funeral — Ferenc Lencses, bom in Buj, Hungary, died at the age of 79. We welcome the infant members of Christ’s Church and we pray that the Lord may comfort the family of our departed brother. DUQUESNE, PA. During Lenten Season we held bi-lingual mid-week services on Wednesday evenings, with an average attendance of 40. On the Communion Service of the season 176 lived with the sacrament. Pre-Easter Union services were held by the Protestant churches of our community nightly, commencing on March 26. One of these services was held in our church with a capacity crowd. The Lord’s Supper was administered on Maundy Thursday evening, on Good Friday morning to the sick and shut-ins, and on the two Easter services; 306 took communion. Contributions and offering during Holy Week and Easter amounted to $1,400.00, quite gratifying during this recession. The chancel of our church is decorated by plants and flowers not only on holidays but every Sunday. The flowers used in our church are in turn given to the sick and shut-ins. Since there are no social events held in our church, other than the three suppers, our groups are working on several projects, such as cleaning, collecting clothes (especially for children), collecting sheets and linen for hospital and home use, etc. The second Fellowship Dinner of the year will be held on Mothers Day sponsored by the Men’s Club. McKeesport We had a very nice looking church this Easter, thanks to the members of the congregation that helped paint and also those that contributed towards the painting. It was ready just in time for Palm Sunday. Church attendence for Easter week was very good. Maundy Thursday there was American service and communion. Good Friday, we had the pleasure of having with us a student preacher, whom we enjoyed very much, Tibor Lőrincz. Easter Sunday there was a Sunrise Service after which breakfast was served in the church hall for all those who attended. The breakfast was donated by the Ladies Aid Society. American service was held at 9:30 and Hungarian service at 11:00. There were 369 that participated in communion. Since there was such a demand for candy, the Youth Fellowship has set April 19 for candy making. As everyone knows May 11 is Mothers Day, a day when all mothers should be treated extra special. This year our men members are going to treat them by serving at the annual Mothers Day Dinner. A special program is set for that day also. On May 18 fifteen of our young children will be confirmed. That’s about all the news for the month but before I close there is a little poem I think tells how a lot of us feel but don’t often get around to saying. So from all of us to all mothers everywhere, here is our little poem No one could ever take the place Of Your love. Mother dear, No one could be more thoughtful Than you’ve been year after year, No one is so deserving Of Life’s sweet and happy things, And that’s just why there’s so much love Behind the wish this brings HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MOM.
