10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ The wife and the mother-in-law of our Archdean Zoltán Béky edited a very valuable “Cook Book” using OLD HUNGARIAN COOKING RECEPIES. The whole book is written in plain English. Every young lady ought to have this book. Here we publish the wonderful front cover picture of the book entitled: “My Mother’s Cook Book.” In the case you want to have one, please write to the folowing address: 180 Home Ave., Trenton, N. J.--------0-------YOUTH CONFERENCE: The Quarterly Conference of the Bethlen Youth Federation will be held on Sunday, January 30th in the Perth Amboy Church. Delegates from all churches of the Eastern Classis are expected to come.-----------O----------God often visits us, but most of the time we are not at home. * * * The man who is fighting sin is too busy to carry a chip on his shoulder. * * * The more a man is addicted to vice, the less he cares for advice. JANUARY: A NEW BEGINNING by the Reverend Charles A. Darocy “Ring out the old, ring in the new.” The words of the great poem symbolize what the New Year should mean to the members of your congregation: a new beginning. Not merely the continuation of what you have been doing for so many years, but brand new start. Our Bible is a Book of beginnings. The very first words of the Book of Genesis tell that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” God created. He did something positive and necessary. Throughout the Holy Scriptures we read of people who are willing to begin some new assigment. When the Lord Jesus called men dropped their daily work and began their discipleship. When the Holy Spirit appeared on the Day of Pentecost the work of the Church began as men were moved to utter the message of the Almighty. Yes, the Lord Jesus calls upon you to begin anew your task ofdiscipleship. He calls upon you to forget the old and start out anew. The Apostle reminds us time and time again of the responsibility of citizenship in the new Kingdom of God. Is not the very first responsibility a vital personal faith? Without this even the most conscientious person would soon give up his loyalty. Begin then with an act of faith. Read your Apostles’ Creed and ask yourself: “Do these words mean anything to me?” If they do, let them be your guide into the heavy seas of life. But faith is not in itself enough. It must be joined with action. Your deeds as a Christian bear more fruit than you could ever imagine. Don’t be afraid to give to others something of your personal religious experience. The best way to do this is by simply shockink your minister some day by offering to help him in his work. What church couldn’t use a Sunday School teacher who will give the old faithful teachers the feeling that their work is really appreciated? Which youth fellowship couldn’t use the assistance of someone who can bring new ideas to their meetings? You know all the answers. EVERY congregation needs people with bright new ideas. EVERY minister would be overjoyed to find that there are young believers who want to do something about the problems that exist in every congregation’s life. EVERY parent would be thrilled by the knowledge that the religious education is conducted by young men and women of faith and power. Are you really “ringing out the old and ringing in the new” in your congregation? It depends on you alone. The need is there. The facilities for work are present. Youd Pastor awaits your word, your offer to do service in the spirit of Christ. Yes, it’s all up to you. What are you going to do about it? You can leave it to the other fellow. But that’s been done for years and so far no one has even found the other fellow. You can talk about the needs of the Church. But most great critics usually stay far away when there is work to be done. The disciples were different. When Jesus said: “Follow me” they dropped their nets and went with him. Today the same call is given by your Church. May your answer be in the spirit of our faith, that by beginning anew you may do the great work set out for you by the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the Lord Jesus Christ.
