MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 nrrpTTI *,,T YOUTH mmT1I REPORT OF THE YOUTH CONFERENCE The 16th Annual National Bethlen Youth Conference was held in McKeesport, f*a., on Sept. 3-4-5. Registration was held all Saturday and the Executive Board’s meeting in tne alternoon. Alter which entertainment by the local club was offered; — Mr. Palchak, a hypnotist, kept the delegates spell-bound. The following morning church services began at 11:00 when Rev. Louis Nagy preached: “Young man, 1 say unto Thee, arise! (Luke 7:14.) This was also the theme of the Conference. The main speaker of the conference, The Rev. Dr. Walter R. Clyde, Professor of Christian Education and Missions of Western Theol. Seminary, Pittsburgh, Pa., spoke discussing reasons why and exactly what does change the life of man. A discussion period and business meeting followed this. Joseph Olah presided during the meeting, Priscilla Szabó, Perth Amboy, N. )., was the Secretary, and the Treasurer Ethel Mikik, Carteret, N. J. Almost a hundred delegates from Duquesne, Pa., Akron, Ohio, Detroit, Mich., Trenton, Carteret, Roebling, Perth Amboy, N. J., attended this conference. The next conference will be held in Trentono, N. J. The newly elected officers were sworn in. President ____________ Julius Nagy, Duquesne, Pa. Vice-President .... William Orosz, Perth Amboy, N. J. Treasurer __ William Járdánházy, McKeesport, Pa. Secretary ___ ___ Dorothy Evans, Trenton, N. J. Members at Large . Goldie Horváth, Duquesne, Pa. and Julia Varga, Roebling, N. J. Monday morning the delegates routed their way to an outing where the President of the English section of the McKeesport congregation gave a fine lecture on what it means to belong to our denomination. He asked the members to be faithful and loyal to our Free Magyar Reformed Church. As every other year, farewells were a little sad but, we all agreed that most of us would see each other at the next conference. Christian Youth Fellowship, McKeesport, Pa. “SEE YOU ALE NEXT YEAR” This farewell brought about the close of the 16th Annual National Bethlen Youth Conference in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. We, members of the McKeesport Youth Fellowship, were very happy indeed to play host to so many wonderful people. Our aim was to have a successful conference both spiritually and socially, and from the opinions expressed to us, we believe we did reach our goal. We want to thank everyone who attended the conference for their full cooperation and attantiveness throughout the entire Labor Day weekend. Without everyone’s help we would not have been able to say that it was a success. As was explained to us on Monday, it is not “good-bye”, but instead “solong, SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR.” YOUTH AND REFORMATION It is a generally accepted truth since old times that the privilege of the youth is to check everything anew they inherited from their faithful ancestors, and to reform them according to the needs of the day. We inherited a Magyar Reformed Church. Many thousands of our martyred ancestors witnessed to her. The reformers of the 16th century in Europe did not work out the complete unification of the reformed teachings, but at least the Hungarian Reformed youth inherited that unity which is included in the “Second Helvetic Confession” and the “Heidelberg Catechism”. This unity, however, became somewhat confused in America after a group of pastors who associated themselves with different denominations. Our youth would like to solve this unification of the Hungarian Reformed teachings. Jesus said: “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:20-21). Our youth would like to have this unity in Christ in every respect. It will save young engaged people from the fight for the religion of their future unborn children foregoing the wedding day. Only one person is interested more than our youth to solve this problem and He is Jesus Christ. Every one of our youth could work at first for the reunification of our Magyar Reformed Churches in the two Americas. The youth of the Free Magyar Reformed Church still has the original and yet incorrupted basis for the unification: the “Second Helvetic Confession” and “Heidelberg Catechism”. Our youth could tell to the youth of those Hungarian Reformed Churches associated with other denomfinations what is the original form of the unity and that we have it. It is so easy to connect ourselves with them and ask them not to let themselves to be converted to the teachings of other denominations. Our youth could work out this plan easily since they are the independent and direct heirs of the Church established by their ancestors. Zoltán Szabó, Charleston, S. T., N. Y.
