10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ ENGLISH GOD THE HOLY TRINITY One of the eternal questions of an earthly man is: who is God? What kind of Being is He? This question would remain unanswered forever if God would not say something about himself to us. Indeed, it pleased God to reveal himself in the Holy Bible in an extent as it is necessary and benehcial for us. Let us see, therefore, what we can find about the Being of God in the Bible. The Bible, in many passages, talks about God as ONE SPIRITUAL BEING. There are no more and can not be more Gods? But at the same time, we meet three Persons on the pages of the Bible each of whom is called God. Divine power and glory sorround each of them. Who are these three Persons? They are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. What should we say then? We should say that God is indeed ONE but in the one God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit co-exist in such a miraculous way that these three Persons make the ONE GOD. Was God such a wonderful Being always? Did the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit exist forever? The Bible says, yes. There was no time and there will be no time when any of them might not exist. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as ONE eternal God was and will be forever. However, the Bible declares that interesting fact, too, that the Son has been born from the Fahter; and the Holy Spirit has proceeded both from the Father; and the Son . . . but not at a certain point of time but eternally. The few remarks we made concerning the Being of God are the elements of the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity. This doctrine makes the Christion religion differ from any other religion of the world. And the doctrine of the Holy Trinity proves that the Christian religion believes and teaches indeed the only true God. The mind of a man never could create a God who is One, yet He exists in three Persons. When we worship the Father as God, and worship the Son as God, and worship the Holy Spirit as God and yet we confess to believe only in One God . . . we obediently and humbly accept the revelation of God about His own Being. Let our human mind be satisfied with this. We are creatures, God is the Creator. The creature never could know more about his Creator only as much as the Creator graciously reveals to him. At a Protestant convention held in Bensheim last October, all 50 priests were enthusiastically received to evangelize the homeland and free their countrymen from the darkness of Romanism by preaching salvation through the merits of Christ.
