SALARIES OF SCIENTISTS IN SOME CAPITALIST COUNTRIES According to the West German author's evaluation, scientists are generally better paid in the United States than in the leading capitalist countries of Europe. Naturally, this is a widely known fact, and there is nothing unusual in it. The author, however, casts light, from several sides, on the components of this fact, and supports his findings by statistical data. He also points to the trends of development which are by far not so unambiguous as his conclusions. 403
