The I967-I968 Programme of the UNESCO The article reviews, in detail, the main features of the UNESCO's two-year programme adopted in late 1966. It indicates the organization's expenditures on edu­cation, as well as the sums devoted to the promotion of natural sciences; giving a critical analysis of the problems of the humanities, it also offers an overall pic­ture of the activities envisaged in the two-year programme as regards both the expen­ditures and the prospective problems. The Management of Industrial Research Institutes in the Developing Countries Industrial research institutes in the developing countries, formerly with colonial status, are of great moment since the problems of fundamental and applied researches are even more intertwined in these' regions than in other parts of the world. Giving a picture of the scope of activities and the services of such institu­tes, the article outlines their organizational structure as has been worked out in the form of book by a working group set up on the initiative of the U.N. Economic and Social Council. It discusses the problems of planning and controlling research pro­jects and the guiding principles of the policy relating to finance and personnel. Fi­nally, it treats the relationship between the industrial research institutes and their customers. British Science Policy on the Move As a continuation of a review summarizing British science policy before and after the 1964 election /Bulletin of Science Organization, 1965-no. 1. p. 38-58./, the article gives an overall picture of the recent developments in the organization of British science and technology. It sums up the major changes taking place in the state organs of science and technology; and treats the financial, organizational and other problems of fundamental research, and also the British policy toward industrial re­search and development. New Developments of the Research and Development Policy in Poland Outlining the main problems of science policy and organization which the competent state organs are engaged in, the article shows how they see the possibili­ties of solving the major problems raised by the scientific revolution and also their 574
